He had least tried downfield passes and called more plays that were somewhat imaginative. But I get your point - Campbell played more conservatively than maybe in other games because he knew Kirk would play even more conservatively and always be risk-averse. IMO.
KF doesn't like risk - at all of any kind - play-makers can be a more risky proposition just like downfield passing some times. So I think it's fair to categorize Kitk generally as almost always playing not to lose rather than playing to win. Why so many games are closer than need be. #Hawkeyes

I'm getting old enough that remembering some things is harder than it used to be. But I recall KF really pushed back on the idea of Banks as the starter while O'Keefe really wanted him there. Then when Brad did get to play it was too difficult even for Kirk to sit him. Kind of a one-off thingy...
A great & really insightful post from Marc. Important to remember that the string of offensive coordinators for the #Hawkeyes have one thing in common: KF is the boss and severely limits what they might really want to do. Unfortunately he (KF) is stuck in the 1990s and college football today is not.

Chuck is not the person I got to know when we served together in the Iowa House + for several years thereafter. We may have had different perspectives on key issues but I always regarded him as a person of integrity. That appears to be no longer the case and it's sad to see that's how he fades away.

On a brighter side for the #Cubs we watched Miguel Amaya play most of tonight's I-Cubs Game in Des Moines. Seats were about 50' from home plate. Amaya looked great behind the plate and was solid batting - showing no signs of the injury. Getting him back in Chicago will be great! I-Cubs won, too.
Been telling you all for years that #Cubs President of Baseball Operations is the most perfect example of the Peter Principe that we've seen in the last decade or two (baseball context). Today was just another example. And now his contract has been extended by an owner who also fits the definition.
