I want a politics that widens the circle to include everyone, not one that shrinks the circle by throwing *undesirables* under the bus. I think this is basic. I am interested in a politics that is rooted at the sources of people's suffering. I am interested in a politics that attends to basic needs.

My job now is to go school to school, university to university trying to help them sort through the challenge of teaching in a world with AI and the first thing I recommend to improve the teaching of writing is cut the number of students per instructor in half. No one is going to do that, though.

What is deemed to be “crime” has more to do with criminalizing specific populations i.e. Black and poor people (and not others). Even when something is labeled a “crime,” cops choose to focus enforcement on some while ignoring others, e.g. shoplifting baby formula is punished; wage theft is ignored.

The young people who would have been most likely to lead the domestic anti-fascist fight in 2025 were repeatedly arrested, beat, jailed, mocked by elites and non-elites over the past 5 years. This was bipartisan. I find it interesting whenever some people ask 'where the young people are' now.

Finally, I said years ago, and folks who have followed me for a long time know this is true, that defunding the police was a moderate demand that is actually the basement in terms of what's needed. I said that liberals will be deeply sorry that they turned that demand into some kind of bogeyman.
