It's strange - and I try not to make a value judgement on it, but I think it's a bit of a shame - that sort of Jazz-influenced chordal/harmonic stuff seems to have gone awol from 'pop' now. Rhythmically and sonically there's still loads going on but not so much of that.
My Mussolini cycling shorts have got people asking a LOT of questions already answered by the shorts
He's one of them people where playing through the songs, even just blocking out the basic chords (which is the extent of my abilities, but they are such lovely chords!) makes you really appreciate how unusually brilliant he is.

Everyone's ok but it's obviously darkened the mood about the place. That said, me, the band & a bunch of regulars all went to another pub where there was a big old quasi-pagan dress-up folk parade thing going on which was lovely & inclusive and restired a bit of faith in the locale.
Hopefully the BBC will follow up on this story to cover the fact the venue mentioned in it had all of its windows put out on Friday night by someone with a hammer. Seems somewhat relevant. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
I was supposed to be playing a gig there last night (it's my local). All very grim.
The best of the pinholes. Still over exposed, but I love how taking a photo with a mere thread of light turns what was a bright touristy ice cream of day (a very busy pub just down the trail) into the opening of Great Expectations or the finale of The Essex Serpent.
Probably ought to post here just in case anyone was coming, had to cancel this gig 'cos the venue got targeted by some far-right types. All very grim, I'll say more when I know what's happening.

Love this! I was lucky enough to meet Quentin Crisp at an afterparty for the New York City Tattoo Convention in 1999 (I have a pic!) He was as fabulous as you'd expect him to be. He lightly touched my inked shoulder and said 'Oh, my dear, what beautiful tattoos' 😍
