im on the side of the people who might actually stop the mass slaughter as opposed to getting rolled because a chain of command is statist. if my number comes up I’d rather have died trying to crush the people doing it than merely believing in something as you seem content to do

I don’t really think so. What they knew at the time was that it made a very big explosion; the lingering effects of radiation were not understood. I would say the experience of having your city firebombed was just as horrific as having it nuked

This is projecting the modern idea that nukes are a uniquely horrible weapon onto the past when they weren’t understood that way- to the allied leadership there was no difference between dropping a bunch of firebombs on, frex, Dresden, and dropping a nuke

theres a grain of truth to this in that Truman did want to secure surrender asap to minimize how much land the Soviets could take and this was part of the reason he used the bombs, but intimidating them was not high on the list of priorities

Ossoff is the incumbent, is charismatic and a good campaigner, and the gop have no strong candidates in a Trump midterm with Dems being the low propensity coalition. He’s safe. Michigan is a bit tougher especially if the primary gets ugly it still should be fairly easy in a Trump midterm

I do have to say though, Pritzker should either be at the top of the ticket or not on it. He is an excellent executive and has great plans but he doesn't have a lot of charisma and barring getting some significant following in the primaries wouldn't be bringing much of a devoted base

warnock imo is kind of the ideal running mate for basically any of the white governors. gallego would also be effective for winning back latino men, but he's much riskier and more controversial; legit don't know anyone who dislikes warnock and he's an excellent speaker

I think it's understandable for them to feel that way even if it's not an opinion I share, because those state governments are waging a cold civil war on blue states which is supported by the majority of the people there
if you're a lib in a deep red state that's all well and good but imo your position is essentially analogous to a russian or israeli liberal- the polity you are part of is violently and brutally imposing its will on blue states so you don't get to complain when people hate your state as a group
especially since really obviously the best dem strategy is to sort of dog whistle that we're putting stephen miller in a cell with the meanest guy we can find but not explicitly say it because that'll scare the hos (pritzker has done this)
My legal theory is pack the court and immediately sue the Republican Party for existing and get their existence declared unconstitutional
They subscribe to a far right authoritarian ideology, and nothing they have done this term is inconsistent with that
and spreading doom that it won't matter how big the majority is bc theyll just refuse to seat them anyway does the opposite of that, you have allowed the enemy's strategy to work on you and you should stop doing that
what's your plan of action once you've taken the prospect seriously anyway? to my mind the best thing that can be done right now is working to make that democratic majority as big as possible so that not seating them will have as little legitimacy as possible
no one is not taking the prospect of them trying seriously, what you're doing is preemptively surrendering
if they succeed in not seating the democratic majority it will be in no small part because people like you believe this now
for one thing his chief of staff has a bluesky and she's been pretty harshly criticizing the leadership of congressional dems as a whole, and we can assume she's been hiring like-minded subordinates and would most likely have a significant role in any pritzker presidency
this is why we need someone like pritzker who seems to have an already existing cadre of excellent staffers who know ball
that is partly unironically my career path because i figure if that option is not available ill have much bigger problems than having a midlife career crisis
