Brompton Cemetery, London, UK.

An ornate mausoleum door in Brompton Cemetery, framed by two weathered stone angel statues. The bronze fronted door is has a gorgeous green patina with intricate wrought-iron patterns, set within a pointed Gothic arch decorated with carved stonework. The angel on the left holds an open book, while the angel on the right carries a wreath. The stairs are scattered with leaves across the stone steps leading up to the entrance, contrasting with the grey stone of the mausoleum.

A weathered stone grave in Brompton Cemetery. The monument is rectangular with a rounded, eroded top and a broad base. On the front, there are two sculpted motifs: a lyre and a theatrical mask, symbolizing the arts and drama. The stone is darkened with age, streaked by rain and time, surrounded by grass and shaded by trees, giving it a somber and atmospheric appearance.

I had previously seen a beautiful piece of woven lettering by Sue Hufton, but having met her at the conference in Cambridge I think I should carve that text on stone. But what kind of design?... rob-kearley-pj3n.squarespace.com/blog-1/2024/... letterexchange.org/members/port...

Possible design for a piece of hand carved #lettering. Circular design, #blackletter. From #Wordsworth:

The #lettering conference at the Faculty of English at #Cambridge Uni had many highlights and will lead to many rabbit holes. Highlights tho, seeing #Baskerville's type punches; Baskerville's sample sheet; the print room and #letterpress equipment. My brain is still fizzing.

A steel type punch (centre, a mirror image of the letter), type matrix (left, made of copper, the punch is pressed into this, letter now right way round) and a lead letter cast using the matrix as the mould (now mirrored again so the letter comes out the right way on paper). Some of Baskerville's steel punches. A case of Baskerville's type punches A sample sheet of Baskerville type, possibly made for a sale of his effects after his death
