I think way too many people believe in the universality of their own online experience. As someone who engages with a wide chunk of social media, I can assure you that, amidst the memes and jokes, there was some full on conspiracizing.

But US indigenous history is so important for all of us. It's still playing out constantly and it's so under taught.
In general, I think it's a good practice to read up on a place before you go there. I went to Japan and Vancouver in the past couple years and did a little study prep. It adds so much.
I went to Hawaii when I was a kid. I got to hang out with some native people and learned a bit - maybe more than I intended as it mostly happened by accident when trying to party. Not sure when I will get to go back there but I am trying to learn American indigenous history more and more these days

Walter Reed is not actually super close to the White House. It's in Maryland. It's a Marine One flight or drive basically fully across Northwest on Connecticut Avenue. I think people need to chill and I'm gonna walk myself on out of this conversation now.

You're describing the hospital visit. I don't put trying to downplay things past them (I literally incredulously participated in a presser with Trumps doc at Walter Reed) but fully hiding a hospitalization or major issue would not actually fit with precedent. This incident is actually an example
This is part of why they generally have to make statements on past Walter Reed visits. I would say you couldn't have a serious medical issue without statements and movement. Likely leaks too. 2020 is a decent example of what I think we'd see.
Even if they tried to somehow freeze out the pool, the motorcade or Marine One are not exactly inconspicuous when moving through DC. You'd also need *a lot* of people not leaking.
This is an interesting question. If the president ever needed serious hospitalization beyond what the facility at the WH can offer, they would have to be taken offsite. That requires a motorcade or chopper. Typically, the pool would note that.

I daresay it's *probable* Trump has some medical issues and treatments we don't know about. However, as someone who was *literally there* when he was hospitalized last time, I think we'd know if it hit that level.
I dont think Trump - or any of our political octogenarians - is particularly mentally or physically healthy. He seems to be getting out a lot less than last time. Somehow I think we can talk about that without going too far down the rabbit hole.

And *by the way* immigrants are often the people being priced out or losing their traditional businesses. The culture I grew up in and around was heavily based on immigrants. Gentrification changed and hurt that.
Look at what is happening in Latin America right now. People have real cultural and economic concerns about gentrification. When you move somewhere, it is important to be respectful and aware of the community and your part in it.
And being so unaware of it that you compare people being frustrated with you as an NYC transplants to what immigrants are going through *at this particular moment* is absolutely Peak Delusion.
This stuff is complicated. I have been a transplant in other cities and likely contributed to gentrification in LA. It is complex can be unavoidable, but being unaware or dismissive of that impact is a weird, bad choice.
Unsurprisingly this comment was paired with some YIMBYism. I promise you, being completely unaware of the history of gentrification and housing issues in NYC in particular is not the flex you think it is.
