Loads of us here know the feeling. Pimping a book is the last thing you need as a writer, ugh, dirty. Started reading this, it's great. And the title alone sums up everything we all feel about the current state of the world. Surrender. Let this book swallow you. Tom's a good 'un. Buy it. ❤️

...an iPad. It's a Sanctuary School; classes each have instant translation software so they can welcome and befriend kids who've arrived from anywhere in the world, getting away from God knows what. That's what they use in the script. Because of course that's what you do. It's basic. Hello. Welcome.

I mean, I don't know man. When my kids' writing group was sketching out the story for the film (we shoot in Spring!) we talked about finding this girl from 1912 in the school cellar. They said well maybe our characters find her, think maybe she's foreign because of her odd clothes, so they use...

...FLED to Britain. We were a place of sanctuary. We should be proud of who we were. My little chest filled with national pride - Britain, a refuge! The narrative we have now is that we're a fist-hearted bunch of arseholes and nobody's allowed in. Oh God what a mess it all is.
Ian Martin (@ianmartin.bsky.social)
Patriotism hit me hard in school, early 1960s. It was just a primary school but there was a LOT of celebrating the empire etc. We heard about how great Britain was because of its people. Britons were open and hospitable. We rooted for the underdog. The Huguenots and others fleeing persecution..[1/2]

I think they're just toying with us now.
Otto English (@ottoenglish.bsky.social) reposted
Starmer could have said: Vandalism isn't patriotism; daubing red crosses on Chinese takeaways and writing racist graffiti isn't patriotism; perfomatively sitting in front of a flag or tying one to a mosque isn't patriotism; Patriotism is about making this country safe, happy productive for all.

Please, please tell me - in the context of racist violence keeping our streets anything BUT fucking safe - that these words from a local Labour MP weren't actually the first words he said. Instead of "I strongly condemn this disgraceful, reckless hooliganism". Fuck's SAKE.
