Look at this response from Polanski to Sophie Ridge's attempted gotcha on flags To *finally* have a mainstream political voice standing up for racialised & minoritised communities being intimidated by the violent fash on our streets It's really not that hard, is it?

Sophy Ridge @SophyRidgeSky My conversation with new Green Leader Zack Polanski about the St George's Cross: Zack Polanski: What does it mean to me? Wel, I think it depends on the context. So during an England football game, 1'Il paint my face in a Saint George's Cross quite happily. At another time though, where we don't nave a football tournament, I think it's quite imported from America this idea that we wave flags outside our house. If people want to do that then think that's up to them. But I think at times of heightened tensions, I would say patriotism is actually about loving your neighbour, whether they're from this country or not. Patriotism is about building cohesive communities. I'm really proud today to be an elected Jewish leader of the Green Party. My deputy leader is a Muslim man. I think that's patriotism. When we recognize that antisemitism and Islamophobia are two sides of the same coin, and actually communities are so much better when we're more creative and work together in solidarity. SR: It's interesting to listen tO what you're saying there -s so do you think that flying a St George's Cross outside your house at a time, as you put it, of heightened tension could be intimidating for some communities? Zack Polanski: I think people can experience as intimidation. And I think if those communities are intimidated, again the patriotic thing to do would be to have those conversations with your neighbours, have those conversations with the communities.

the Star Tribune just called me and told me they would not be publishing the obituary I wrote for my father as it is “unfair to him” and “in poor taste” so here it is and fuck the strib ✌🏻

Charles Dudley Krenz, 72, died from complications of bile duct cancer on May 29 at his home in Winston, Oregon. Charles spent the majority of his life making poor use out of every opportunity and privilege awarded him and attempting to make everyone around him as miserable as he was. Bright but lacking curiosity, confident but devoid of empathy, Charles was given second, third, even fourth chances throughout his life, but squandered them with a predictable consistency that borders on deliberate. At the time of his death, he had alienated himself from almost all who cared for him. Those people will not be surprised that there was no deathbed change of heart here. Chaz remained unpleasant until the very end. Charles is preceded in death by his partner Jacquelyn Sullivan, whose warmth and good graces provided a reason for others to tolerate him for 27 years until her death from ovarian cancer in 2017. He is survived by his two children, AC Sullivan and Hank Sullivan, who, in the years since their father stole a bunch of money from them and skipped town, have been both relieved and dismayed to learn that breaking generational curses only really takes a modicum of personal effort.

Black and white cartoon with title 'Ten messages for a man who thinks children should stay off the roads and stick to the park'. Text of image: 1. We need to encourage children to be active, not continually limit them 2. How are they supposed to get to the park (man saying 'get off the pavement') 3. Two bike riders: 'It's fine, we're riding to the park' 4. Open spaces are disappearing (building site with crane) 5. 'No cycling in the park' notice 6. Non-drivers pay for roads too (person with tax envelope) 7. Why don't we make the streets safer for children, not banish them? 8. Children were there first (time line showing this, with 'scale deliberately vague')

Does the appointment of an anti-mayor imply the existence of an uncle-mayor too? They could wander around dispensing slightly left-field life advice and whatnot.

These things are hard to hypothecate - I've seen lots of business cases agonising over this stuff. But, in short, if you are spending money on one thing, you can't spend it on another... So, free parking has a cost.

(but I completely agree with the assertion that hospitals should not be in the free parking for all business...)

Minor correction, Karl. To keep an inpatient bedspace open, you require 24/7 nursing. So, when you factor in 37.5 hours a week, study and annual leave etc, you end up needing 6-7 nurses to keep that "1 nurse to 8 patients" ratio. Your estimate is about 6 fold inflated.

Found a baby songbird? Here's a newly updated chart!

A chart that explains what to do If You Find A Baby Songbird Out Of The Nest. Is it hurt or did a cat get it? (Cat bites & scratches cause deadly infections.) or, Has a person kept it for over a day, given it food or water, or gotten it wet? If yes, Contact a licensed wildlife rehabilitator or wildlife care center near you. An online search can help. If no, what does it look like? Eyes not yet open. You have a hatchling. It's very young. Eyes open; feathers few & may be in tube-like sheaths. You have a nestling. Feathered; awkwardly hops or flutters; tail & wings short. You have a fledgling. Many sharp teeth; large claw on second toe. You have a velociraptor. If a hatchling or nestling, can you see the nest? If yes, Return it to its nest. The parents won’t care if they can smell you. If no, Make a nest from a basket & dried grass. Wire it to a tree. (Note: A few species, like Juncos, need a nest on the ground.) If a fledgling, is it in immediate danger? If yes, carefully move it to a safer spot nearby. If no, DO NOT INTERVENE! Though the bird looks awkward, it’s in a natural stage & the parents are still feeding it. If a velociraptor, has it seen you? If yes, back away slowly. Do not show fear. If no, run. Watch for others that may attack from the sides. FYI: Some babies (eg. swifts, most woodpeckers) only sit on the ground if in trouble. When in doubt, keep watch & contact a wildlife rehabilitator if needed!

There's an interesting corollary tho - that old quote "I know a lot of very lucky people. They work very hard at being lucky..." I think there is a combination, in many instances, of luck and ability to make that luck work you you.
