The truth: we need migration. The problem: too many politicians are terrified to say it. Why? They're led by a) toxicity of the charlatans & b) wealthy media organisations who demand these useful distractions rather than us talking about inequality. Reject it. Draw the line.

We like to travel by train from Leeds in to Europe. It’s a great way to travel. But honestly, if you look at the number of people flying out of Leeds Bradford airport, there is no way you could transport them through the channel tunnel. And that is just one city. It would be great if you could.

I don’t have an issue with immigrants, but I do have one with people in cafes and restaurants with dogs. I was in one recently, in Harrogate of all places, where the dog was on a seat drinking from a bowl of water on the table! Needless to say I haven’t been back.

“It’s a statistical fact that all the violence in the USA is caused by the far right” I can’t prove that statement to be correct but then neither can those who claim it is all the fault of the far left.

With Reeves latest proposals to get rid of Regulatory bodies, the Labour Party is rapidly turning into the Tory Party. Thank goodness we still have the Green Party.

Actions speak louder than words. What makes Israel so special that no government seems to be prepared to take action rather than just verbally condemning their horrific attacks?
ianwshaw.bsky.social (@ianwshaw.bsky.social)
Surely the answer to stopping the small boats crossing the Channel is to target the suppliers of the boats. The boats seem to be remarkably alike, so who is manufacturing them and who is supplying them to the criminals?

Putin and Netanyahu are emboldened to act as they like, committing death and destruction across the Globe. Emboldened by whom? Donald Trump of course, the great peace maker, or maybe not. Who fails miserably to reign in these awful people.

Energy prices are going up in October. We are being taken for fools by Ofgem. Every spring prices fall. when we are using less energy and every autumn prices rise, just as we all switch on our central heating. I suspect that they are not working in our interests but those of the energy companies.

What people want is hope not hate, even those protesting outside hotels. Starmer promised that but so far has failed miserably to deliver. He is too focused outside the UK and even there he is not having any noticeable effect. We need a leader who can drive the country for the common good.

This whole issue is getting very complicated. What is the true situation in Gaza? Al Jazeera has a reputation for unbiased reporting, so the best way to stop the truth getting out of Gaza is to stop the reporting. We are also starting to hear from genocide deniers claiming all we see is propaganda.

The government keeps saying that there is information about the planned activities of PA that justifies proscribing the organisation. But they can’t tell us what that is. Why not? I do wonder if the US government influenced the decision.

Remember the days when you went to buy a new car and the only thing the salesman wanted to know was how much you wanted to spend each month? Remarkably they always managed to get pretty close to your figure. You had no idea how much the car cost or what interest you were paying for the financing.

When I am out in a public space and witness people behaving badly, my natural instinct is to say something to them about their behaviour. My wife’s response is to remind me that they could be carrying a knife and to ignore them, which I reluctantly do.

ianwshaw.bsky.social (@ianwshaw.bsky.social) reply parent

The centre, centre left and centre right politicians have failed. We appear to have only an ultra right wing party presenting ’answers’. But they are funded by the ultra rich and will follow their playbook. That will not be in the interests of the 95%. We desperately need an alternative.

I know now, with just under 4 years to the next UK general election, that I will not vote Labour regardless of what they may or may not do in the meantime. Their total inaction on the appalling situation in Gaza is staggering.
ianwshaw.bsky.social (@ianwshaw.bsky.social)
Who is driving UK Government policy? I ask because rather than getting a Government working in the best interests of the people we seem to have one that is continuing to work in the interests of the elite and big business. I thought we had voted out the Tories, maybe I was wrong?

In the private sector people have a choice as to who they want to supply a service. With water we have no choice. The suppliers know this and can therefore do as they please and boy don’t they do just that. Nationalising the water companies will not make matters worse.
ianwshaw.bsky.social (@ianwshaw.bsky.social) reply parent
We don’t want to nationalise the water companies as we might upset a few mega rich people. Government’s will continue to ignore the ‘will of the people’ except where they can convince them to go along with what whatever the rich want.
