I've been pretty overwhelmed with anxiety lately, which means I've been playing a lot of... Dark Souls?? I don't know how it happened, but somewhere along the way it became my comfort game. It's where I go when I'm unable to poke my head above the waters. Time to 100% it. Again. Praise the ☀️.

Congrats! 80% is an achievement in itself. I'm still going back to chip away towards 112%, it's remarkable how much more is hidden away in it. As much as I dislike the general use of the term "soulslike", this is one of the few games where I'd say it's actually an apt description.

I spent most of my youth in a dark place, with no one in my life who was 'like me'. It's possible to grow up surrounded by love and yet still be completely lost and alone. When I disclosed my thoughts -- suicide, trans -- they were met with shame; I was 'broken'. Be the support others don't have.
The more we normalize being open about our own mental health and struggles, the more we make it a safe place for those who need to reach out for help. It's why I'm open today about my depression. It's why I chose to come out publicly as trans. My DM's are always open. You're not broken. 💛🩵🩷🤍🩷🩵💛

It grew on me rather quick, I hope you enjoy it! Pretty sure the majority of my first 6-8 hours were spent aimlessly wandering, marking spots I couldn’t traverse yet, with more than one “should I be here yet?” moment, before I really started to progress. But I also enjoy getting lost. 😅
I’ve been using the map markers in HK and try to keep to a consistent ‘code’. Black when I see a black beam, yellow when I can’t reach a ledge or jump a pit.. My problem is the next time I play, I always forget what my code was and what was stopping me at each pin so I re-explore them everytime. 😅

To be fair, Hollow Knight is pretty completable in a short time frame; then you poke around after getting the basic (bad?) ending and discover there’s another game’s worth of content hiding away. 😅 Hopefully Silksong does similar!

Yes, I am keeping the description of the 'shadows' vague on purpose, so as not to trigger anyone. If you've played HK, you know what I'm talking about. Removing them would have zero effect on the gameplay, and they're only in a couple rooms. I literally had to stop playing until I stopped shaking.
~~Accessibility~~ About to my spoiler-dodging era, but I'm really hoping Silksong does better (see: makes any attempt) to address accessibility issues with Hollow Knight. see: Arachnophobia. Deepnest almost killed the game for me. Adding a toggle to turn off the 'shadows' would go a long way.💀
