In his work, On the Economy of Machinery and Manufactures (which is an incredible read by the way), Babbage introduced the idea of a cognitive division of labour. Basically, it generalised Adam Smith's division of labour to what we call knowledge work.

#rstats So chuffed! I printed the first PDF copy of my book to see what it might look like in print! It will be printed in full color! Visualizing Multivariate Data and Models in R On the whole, looks good, but lots of tweaking to do. It weighs in at ~440 pgs., so perhaps some cutting needed.

For many decades crime in the US and UK has been falling but more people think crime is rising. Collecting, presenting, and consuming data matters! The US is now cutting back data collection. Terrible, inexcusable move.

Success! @noaa.gov GOES-West full disk, without (left) the Rayleigh correction that 99% of the published imagery uses. I still need to tweak the settings, but I always thought the removal of atmospheric scattering makes Earth look too flat. Thanks to @stim3on.bsky.social & @simonsat.bsky.social

This was an absolutely great book! An amazing story, Guy Delisle dug deeply into the challenges, triumphs & horrific moments of Muybridge’s life, I learned a ton, was captivated for all of it. My dad got it first recommended - I hadn’t heard of it. Def recommend! From @dandq.bsky.social great stuff!
