First day of writing the 2nd draft of Kiss and Kill (my fat Black femme fatale serial killer romance), and it was hard to get in the mindset because Diahann is very different than Declan or Bazaduill, but also because this is the first feminine XMC I have written in about a year.

Instead of spending a fortune on art, how about you pay an editor instead? Buying art for a subpar manuscript is like trying to put glitter on shit. It's still shit, just mostly shiny.
Being an editor and feeding your client's manuscript to ChatGPT should be a crime. It should be fraud at the very least.
On the flip side, one our strengths as black people is our empathy. And having limited representation in media for so long, (among other things), shaped us in a way where, even though we may not see ourselves physically in a character, we can still identify with their humanity.
Author's AI can't replace a human editor and a human beta reader. Omg, Prowriting Aid and Grammarly is only half right most of the time. And I can only think of the horrors of a ChatGPT trying to edit your manuscript. Just say no!

On one hand, I get needing to escape this hellscape we call life but I think most people who feel like they need to self-insert like that are white. And who got us into this mess? White people.
I think about how some readers self-insert into the books they read, and that maybe when they say "I can't relate to this book" what they actually mean is that "This is clearly a Black person, and I can't ignore that to self-insert and that makes me uncomfortable."
