transit cuts are virtually guaranteed in the coming months and years, high school music directors are not paid fairly so there will be no music at high school sports events, and for some reason it's 73 degrees at 71% humidity at 11:30PM in September. WE'RE DOING GREAT OVER HERE.

I can see why he and his security detail would want to get out of there for a variety of reasons, they seemed surprisingly unprepared for a protest. I figure this is only the beginning of how activists are going to approach his appearances, especially if he continues with a run and bunker strategy.

To add to Cassie's point, Hardesty was also very good at listening and talking to protesters. What Wilson did, escaping to leave everybody hanging and no one satisfied, does not instill a strong sense of leadership.

Compared to how a Councilor recently handled a similar situation it makes me wonder if Wilson has what it takes to lead the city through this moment.

Do not have a particular bone to pick on this one but it is rather telling how many various groups in the city are rather desperate for the Mayor's time, attention and accountability. Sure he's picking up trash on the way to work 7 days a week but not exactly making himself available to the public.

Recipients who received the half-price fare discount ended up taking so many more transit trips that the overall amount they spent on transit fares actually *went up*. This suggests that a deep discount in transit fares for low-income residents could actually be a net revenue boost for agencies!

DC conducted a half-price & free transit fare experiment for low-income residents. Compared to those paying full fare: —Half-price recipients took 2x the transit trips —Free pass recipients took 4x the trips Subsidized participants reported higher well-being. thelabprojects.dc.gov/fare-subsidy...

Transit riders who got a half-price pass took more than twice as many trips as those without a discount. Those with a free pass took more than four times as many trips. Overall well-being improved among those who received a discounted transit pass.

There is/was a vision to do this along the length of SW Ankeny. We did get that one little stub of it. Now we're more focused on tearing out the street plazas for some reason. The bus mall used to be car free back in the day. This all to say: agreed.

Maddening that so many Portlanders continue to perpetuate myths that homelessness is a choice, that it's easy, that people flock here because we have abundant services, that there is always somewhere to go, that people don't want help, etc. etc. More reporting like this is necessary to push back.

Observe the gauntlet houseless Portlanders must navigate to access services. Bring your trailer to the sanctioned RV site, but have it confiscated from you when the site closes because you can't afford insurance. Lose your tiny home slot because you were late to a meeting. "We feel abandoned."

So true. Given the extreme political handwringing over ANY new revenue streams at every level of government, it's hard to imagine how we get to this kind of big picture policy makeover. Somehow, we've got to get there.

trump just gave wealthy americans an absurdly massive tax break that decimates funding for the most basic social services that keep this country's government even sorta functional, and somehow oregon's business leaders think we need to double down and do the same locally www.opb.org/article/2025...

Using consumer rental cars to block traffic and abduct people is so pathetic.

Hard to wrap my head around this. Police are implying they fell on their own and were not hit by the truck? I hope we get more answers. What a fucking tragedy.

💯. Opening up vending opportunities in general in our parks would be huge. Considering McCall Park often has legal beer vending during various events throughout the summer, it shouldn't be that huge of a stretch to get there. I think our new gov't is well suited to take this on.
