This is a good point. In general (and I’m not trying to offend; there are posters I like covering this from every angle) it seems to me than men and women are talking about this issue very differently. It would behoove us, as men, to think about that a bit!
You simply can’t tax credit your way out of what pregnancy and childbirth actually, physically are. And in a liberal society the greatest good involves the people assuming that risk deciding whether or not, or how often, they want to do so. Everything else is noise.
I cannot believe this site is talking about birth rates AGAIN but here’s one relevant bit of anecdata: within my (educated, middle class) social circle there is one woman who died in childbirth and two more who easily could have.

One of the more frustrating aspects of the discussion to me (not a public health expert) is that to a first approximation…it worked? We got a vaccine and an effective treatment and vastly reduced the number of dead and disabled. With no roadmap. That’s a Goddamn triumph.
I think my actual take on this is that a lot of people had a very unpleasant 2020 for reasons but included but weren’t limited to COVID and are still working out how they feel about that. The “not limited to” bit is what’s lurking behind a lot of these spats.
