I've seen folks do wonders with polypaint in ZBrush but using 3D Coat for handpainting just feels so much smoother with their brushes/blending tools and brush type options (paint by polys is a thing there too). You can also bake the AO in 3D Coat too but I haven't compared it to baking the AO in SP
