The pitch clock has completely changed his game and the way he pitched since before the big leagues. I’m not sure we’re ever gonna see the Nola we used to know again.
I think it’s a big part. Pre pitch clock, he dealt with runners on base by slowing way down. He threw over to 1st a ton as well. This also affected the hitters. It was how he controlled the game. He doesn’t have a high velocity so he had to do things other ways.
Someone is gonna write a ton about how a single rule change (pitch clock) completely torpedoed Nola’s career. Without delays and slowing down with runners on, Nola’s game is forever changed and he simply cannot adjust.
