#birds A pair of mourning doves enjoying each other's company.
Jean Weller (@jeanweller.bsky.social) reply parent
Well, I have to admit this was in winter so this little one had fluffed feathers to keep warm. We usually have a group of birds at the feeders and if they don't sit around waiting to get their turn they would lose out. This one had patience!
Jean Weller (@jeanweller.bsky.social)
#birds White-breasted nuthatch looking sane, unlike many people today.

#blueskyartshow #home Home is where the heart is and my heart is always with these three, no matter where they go on their travels. Taken many years ago at the Pacific Ocean.
Jean Weller (@jeanweller.bsky.social)
#birds Not a hummingbird. Can' make it work. Tufted Titmouse would like some instruction, please.
Jean Weller (@jeanweller.bsky.social)
#birds Only a very few hummingbirds left but we'll leave the feeders out for a while for those passing through.
Jean Weller (@jeanweller.bsky.social)
#birds A bluebird and a downy woodpecker pass the time of day.
Jean Weller (@jeanweller.bsky.social)
#birds Eastern Bluebird in flight. Such a calm and serious face. Makes me think of avenging angels of old beliefs.
Jean Weller (@jeanweller.bsky.social)
#blueskyartshow #summer
Jean Weller (@jeanweller.bsky.social)
#birds It's the end of summer and so let's celebrate the Summer Tanager (female)!
Jean Weller (@jeanweller.bsky.social)
#birds the blue Jay took over the stalwart pose from the gackle from earlier in the week. Ready to stand tall and proud for all those standing up to Fascism.
Jean Weller (@jeanweller.bsky.social)
#birds Tittle-tattle Thusday. "And you're never going to believe what he said to her..." Female cardinal and male rose-breasted grosbeak.
Jean Weller (@jeanweller.bsky.social)
#birds It's wrens-day and if you know Carolina wrens, you know they will nest anywhere!

I wouldn't either and it may not come to that. But having a functioning democracy is necessary for us as a species to survive. We have GOT to start doing planet -saving stuff and I think that can happen most quickly under blue leadership without the delaying tactics of red leadership.
Jean Weller (@jeanweller.bsky.social) reply parent
This is beautiful. Peaceful, and a little bit mystical.
Jean Weller (@jeanweller.bsky.social) reply parent
But the will towards destruction and cruelty has not left the Reds since they settled in America and made their fortunes from people of color (and plenty of poor whites as well ). And that seems like it will never go away. 3/3
Jean Weller (@jeanweller.bsky.social) reply parent
And if Reds want to secede, I think we should let them go. It costs too much, mentally, to try to embrace them. Not that I'm against dissent in government but we would still have plenty of that. 2/3
Jean Weller (@jeanweller.bsky.social) reply parent
This is a wonderful essay. A lot of my own thoughts as to what is happening parallel his points. I would love to see new Blues (not the traditional politicians who settle for the status quo) get into office and begin a heavy-duty rebuild of America. 1/3

Jean Weller (@jeanweller.bsky.social)
#birds Time for a Sunday refresher. How about a young bluebird raking a bath!
Jean Weller (@jeanweller.bsky.social)
#birds A lovely Baltimore Oriole. I wish they came more frequently to our feeders but we only get a glimpse now and then.

Jean Weller (@jeanweller.bsky.social)
#birds A new neighbor moved in, bringing a hive of honeybees. They soon found the sugar water. Somehow the hummingbirds and the bees learned to coexist (it helps we have 3 feeders and 2 of them aren't appealing to the bees). Vive la difference!
Jean Weller (@jeanweller.bsky.social)
#birds this red-winged blackbird has some pretty non black feathers on his head and back.

Love this! Never seen that hummingbird before.

#birds For two-day, how about a pair of mourning doves. Is it a he trying impress a she? Or just a couple of buds hanging out, with one trying to deal with ruffled feathers?

#birds Take time to have a drink with friends and build up your joy.

#birds Last fledgling from the latest brood of Eastern Bluebirds. He/she is sitting on our deck trying to figure out what to do next. Finally flew up to the overhanging crepe myrtle and so our ability to protect them comes to an end. Sigh. Be kind, mother nature.

Since then I have married, raised 2 daughters, worked and volunteered, and grown, hopefully wiser, more generous, and more joyful. I want every American to have a satisfying life like mine. (3/3)

I am an American and grew up in a white rising middle class family. We were not wealthy but had enough. One of my best friends was Jewish. Did not know many people of color until I went off to college and I fell in love with people of all types. (1/3)

#birds Taking a break from my beautiful birds to showcase one of their most ardent supporters--the squirrel. They do love to scavenge under the feeders for whatever gets scattered. Here's one on their own feeder with peanuts (they emptied this out in 10 mins flat).

#birds These days I feel like this american goldfinch being scrutinized by our big fluffy cat. I too have a solid piece of glass between us, my white middle class mundane existence. My job is to work on extending that glass to others.
