Florida raves about their cornucopia of school choices and praises teachers who start their own microschool. I wonder how those teachers plan on handling sexual harassment from parents. Or sick days.
One of the points I try to bring up in 1:1 conversations about school choice is that each added level of choice means one more level of decision-making and responsibility for those involved. This thread speaks to transportation.

While canvassing today, a woman greeted me through an open window - happens all of the time. I started my intro, she clocked the preponderance of blue on my palm card and person. As she slammed the window shut, she yelled, "justice for [indecipherable.]!" Not knowing who she meant will haunt me.
I love the hours after a new vaccination where it's a matter of, "is that sensation new? Or have I just never noticed it?" It's like picking your car up from the mechanic.

I borked my Achilles a while back and had to start PT and icing it on the regular (a sprain 20 years ago healed weird and I have to retrain the gooey bits?) Guy recommended an ice wrap available at Wegmans that is made for ankles and I am 100% convinced it was invented by a Gen X woman.

I'd be curious how the learning sciences folks respond to the episode (cc: @dtwuva.bsky.social et al.) but the bits I heard spoke to how teachers engage with the whole child and are aware their personalities, developmental stages, preferences, and more.
Listening to most of an absolutely fantastic episode of Hidden Brain today (hiddenbrain.org/podcast/how-...) and it absolutely, 100% affirmed my hunch that teachers use "learning styles" as a shorthand for something much bigger than kinesthetic, auditory, etc.

(My personal Mandela effect is that there was an episode of "Kate and Allie" where Allie gave Chip a whole big lecture on how there's nothing wrong with just being ordinary. That ordinary is fine and good and nothing to be ashamed of. I'd love to find that clip.)
This is absolutely correct AND teachers are bombarded with the message that if a parent's child does not like school or finds it boring, it's a problem for the teacher to fix. It so often seems that the real challenge at hand is convincing parents their child is a child; nothing more, nothing less.

I debated writing this. It can feel tempting, upon encountering yet another instance of this administration’s racism, to let it be. How many ways can you say the same thing over and over again? And yet we have to write it down, if for nothing else, so those who come after us know we were against it.

I'm elected member of my local Dem Committee. An endorsed Dem running for local office. Is my party, or it's leaders, suggesting I should be policing my friend's speech? Grrr. Argh. Sickness, indeed.
The bottom line is that the people with the most power in the Democratic Party are historically unpopular and have utterly failed to prevent everything awful that's happening right now and they'd much rather you blame the people with the least power
I've seen a couple of pieces about educators who've started boutique schools which means it's a trend and I need someone to pay me to write about how it's being (implicitly) framed as the tradwife life for teachers.
Ha!! I joke with a friend of mine that there is one hell of a book to be written by somebody who wants to burn all of the bridges in the teacher PD world. I am not that person but they are out there.
(And to be clear, it wouldn't be about things teachers need to do or should do during PD, it would be about the things that often happen leading up to PD sessions. I.e. #13 is a great suggestions but there were times I was told explicitly by leadership to nip it in the bud.)
There is a version of this to be written from the PD-provider perspective that would be a hoot to write.
It's like someone sent the safety pin idea from 2020 back to the drafting stage and feedback was heard and acted on.

I listened to an interview with a member of Congress (R) who seems to be trying hard to do his job & represent his constituents. At point he mentioned a few of Trump's wild comments and said people should just ignore them; Focus on just the "real" or "serious" stuff. I'm curious how he reads this.

The statement, "in 100 years no one will know the difference between a booty call and a butt dial and that's why we need historians" (or something like that) has been running through my head all week and damned if this didn't pop up today on @askhistorians.bsky.social.
A volunteer did help me make walk sheets which basic mapped out routes I could walk or ride my bike. Volunteering to help canvas doesn't have to mean walking with a candidate. (But I still need to interact with the app before and after each door to check names and enter information.)
(Also! Canvassing is so much easier with someone else. Having to stop and check the app each time myself means half as many doors knocked. Considering volunteering for a local candidate!)
Heading out to the door to do a canvassing shift (for myself, which is weird and fun!) and love the points in this thread.
Chapman has announced its own AI platform which provides subscriber access to all the various big algorithms. To see what students will be dealing with, I tested it on my own bibliography. Folks, it doesn't just make up citations, it provides real DOIs for them that link to unrelated publications.
Firing and demoralizing feminized jobs as enemies of the state while brazenly bribing men with violent jobs that almost instantly puts them into the middle of middle class is very basic gendered warfare. Fulfilling the manosphere’s promise.
