It's probably going to be inaccurate but I don't think this is a cover up. This is what happens when DOGE cut too many career federal employees. It's starting with economic data but others will follow - health data at CDC, weather data at NWS, etc.
Jobs revisions always happen and I wouldn't necessarily chalk it up to dishonesty. The data is collected by federal career workers who are trying to do their best after a huge cut in their workforce. DOGE cut way too many people arbitrarily and this is the result. Expect more issues like this soon.
I think this needs to be highlighted more. The number of data collectors has been drastically cut and they can't get accurate initial numbers with a much smaller team. We're finally starting to see the effects of what happens when you cut federal jobs on a whim with DOGE.
