Another day, yet ANOTHER stupid, pointless announcement on immigration from this stupid pointless government. Today: you are a student - we're going to write you a stern letter about how you better not be thinking of staying! Insanity. Racist, cowardly, insanity. #r4today

The body of evidence showing that when centrist parties adopt the priorities and talking points of the far right, they torpedo themselves is vast and powerful. Yet Keir Starmer's Labour Party seems determined to ignore it. A few examples in 🧵: theconversation.com/how-should-l...

Labour doubling down on migrants is so self defeating. The country won’t get better because migrants aren’t the problem, and they’ll still get voted out. Chasing the far right is a fool’s errand. Fixing the country for everyone is the only real solution.

A solo cycle ride for me yesterday but not entirely alone as the day was bookended by friendly cats and there was a reception committee of sheep at Carleton Forehoe. Lunch at lovely Hackford. 39 miles, 10 churches, searched for pseuds and found them in 5 of the churchyards.

A black cat with white paws, bib and spot on the nose coming towards you on green grass. Behind the cat is a green bicycle propped against the sign outside a church. There is a green leafy hedge behind the bike and the entrance to the churchyard is to the left where a couple of headstones can just be seen. A flock of sheep approaching from a few feet away, looking curious. Behind them is green pasture with three large, widely spaced trees. On the horizon is a green hedge behind which on the left can just be seen a flint church. The sheep are a very pale fawn colour with black heads and legs, except the one on the left which is dark brown with a black head that has a broad white patch down the centre from between the ears down to the muzzle. Hackford church - a broad flint tower, red pan tile roof on a smooth rendered nave and a flint porch. Seen from just inside the lychgate which arches over the top of the photo. A gravel path winds up to the open porch with green grass to either side. There are several upright headstones in front of the church, some leaning at an angle. The sky is mid blue with several large fluffy white clouds. A black cat with a white tip to its tail standing looking right on top of a grave slab. The cat has a pale purple collar and yellow eyes. The grey grave slab that the cat is on is speckled with light and dark grey lichens and a couple of patches of dry pale green moss. Behind is another, taller grave, built of pale grey bricks.

Pushing up the Daisies and the wonder of rain. This is the Daisy Earthstar, Geastrum floriforme, in my local cemetery. It is hygroscopic, the rays curl up and cover the spore sack in dry weather; after the recent little bit of rain I got to see one unfurled. #FungiFriends

A Daisy Earthstar curled up on itself; the rays have folded over and completely concealed the spore sack so the pale greyish fungus is like a little crumpled up piece of paper discarded on the ground. Two Daisy Earthstars looking shrivelled up with the rays curled up over the spore sack. They are brownish-grey and are lying on the ground on bare soil with some bits of dried conifer sprigs. An 'unfurled' Daisy Earthstar on the ground amidst some bits of conifer fronds. The fungus is greyish-brown and consists of a spherical spore sack surrounded by nine rays that sort of give the resemblance of petals, hence the name Daisy.

Tides are indeed changing, as Farage (enabled by the BBC and right-wing newspapers) are whipping up hatred of migrants. Starmer encourages this by repeating their hatred instead of emphasising how we actually need migration. He is leading Britain into fascism and a Reform government.

One of my favourites. They appear on freshly fallen trees and someone told me that's because the fungus is already present in the tree, but in a non-fruiting form.

It's been quite a while since I've done any proper artwork so I thought I'd loosen up the muscles of my drawing hand by sketching some Geastrum Earthstar specimens. Need to work on the detail and deepen the shadows but quite pleased so far.

A sketchbook page with partly finished drawings of four different species of Earthstar fungi. On the top right corner of the spiral bound sketchbook rests an eraser and graphite pencil.

With multi party politics and five political parties polling double digits, the current first-past-the-post electoral system is clearly not fit for purpose. Just 34% of the votes cast could gift Reform U.K., 63% of the 650 MPs in the HoC. It’s time to GET PR DONE! #getPRdone
