He's loving being at home and being a full-time dad after so many years of being away a lot. And I think he must be strengthening his marriage after such a stressful four years with lots of travel for work. He was teaching at U of Chicago for at least a semester. Writing sounds plausible now.

In fact, the Secretary of Transportation does most of his work away from the site of a disaster so he is not using additional resources nor distracting from what needs to be done at the site itself. Buttigieg's response after the Palastine derailment was the norm for his role.
Did you know that his predecessor went to only one site of one major accident in her four years in that position? The role of the Transportation Secretary was coordination of the various agencies and services who were needed to respond quickly. USDOT agencies were on the site in 2 hours.

It’s all too easy to lose proficiency in second languages if you don’t use them. I studied French, Italian, and German each for several years (German mostly for reading), but my skills have rusted away. Now I am trying to learn Spanish on my own, but I need to motivate myself to study daily!
Pope Leo XIV knows 5 languages, including English, Italian, & Spanish, & reads Latin & German. Since the Pope has been using English, Italian, & Spanish in his life & work as a matter of course, he's probably more fluent in 3 than PB is. For PB it's a matter of opportunity; he'd catch up quickly.

Surprisingly few presidents have risen to the top job from being VP. One was Ford when Nixon resigned. Another was Johnson when JFK was assassinated. Lincoln’s VP, and the VP of another who died in office. Biden did, but he also made several attempts as Senator.

I suspect all of drmph's visible, vocal critics have gotten a huge pile of threats, probably from MAGA and possibly from drmph. The leading and most vocal Democrats have targets on their back, and so do their families. They're mostly being cautious because of that, I believe.
Buttigieg is the only one without a current political position. He can't just demand media time and attention, and he doesn't have the staff to set these things up. He has to be invited. Democratic leadership has to invite him to appear, speak, represent, etc. Of course a lot of us want to see him!
I like AOC, but Buttigieg has a lot more of the governing experience, education, connections, international experience, and executive accomplishments. He should be president, while AOC is the smart, charismatic VP.
Buttigieg doesn't currently hold an official position in government, unlike ALL the other leaders. He doesn't have the advantages of the media, the money, & the current details, and that's not his fault. He'll be in public when he's invited, but he can't demand media attention as a regular citizen.
Pritzker is a billionaire--sure, he comes from a wealthy family--but he is also an excellent governor of Illinois (I live here), thoughtful, strong, smart, and empathetic. I think he would make a good president. But Pete Buttigieg would be a better president.
Buttigieg is absolutely a fighter. He put mostly designed & advocated for the infrastructure bill behind the scenes, in hundreds of phone calls & face-to-face meetings that resulted in the passage of the bill. He confronted the airlines & freight companies for better safety & consumer service.
