Currently experimenting with making a character replacement mod for Rabbit and Steel, very slowly. Art practice- better late than never, right?

I see a government office mostly controlled by one party demanding the representative from the other party being locked in the building unless escorted by the police as a threat. She can't even leave without those who answer to people positioning themselves as an enemy. Disgusting.

I can understand disliking her music, everyone has their own tastes, but... criticizing her for releasing music too often? Nah. That's absurd.
JetBalrog (@jetbalrog.bsky.social) reply parent
Yesssss. I completely agree with the sentiment. I need to play it again too. I used to have a save file right before the end fight sequence because it was just so fun...
JetBalrog (@jetbalrog.bsky.social) reply parent
I completely agree. We were told "this is the future of The Legend of Zelda" and I did not realize they literally meant it was going to be nothing but this for the next ten to twenty years. Even when the games had a stock formula, they all felt different... but now...?
JetBalrog (@jetbalrog.bsky.social) reply parent
If you ask me, they should have just done something entirely disconnected from Tears of the Kingdom instead. I know WHY they didn't, but they should have.
JetBalrog (@jetbalrog.bsky.social) reply parent
I've never posted on Imgur myself (because I ran into weirdness setting up an account to begin with and just gave up) but I always liked seeing Tiny around... and even I've noticed he's been a lot less active lately.
JetBalrog (@jetbalrog.bsky.social) reply parent
There's the quote I mentally paraphrase all the time. It is incredibly true.
JetBalrog (@jetbalrog.bsky.social) reply parent
Man. I keep finding everyone who I wind up bumping into in these spaces is around my age lately. Not complaining, just. Huh.
JetBalrog (@jetbalrog.bsky.social) reply parent
Believe me, I get that. My current profile picture was my first real piece of artwork in AGES and I'm struggling to go back and finish all of what it was for. Buh.
JetBalrog (@jetbalrog.bsky.social) reply parent
Didn't hear about this, which is even more frustratingly sad. Of course it didn't really break through to my corner of the internet/world.
JetBalrog (@jetbalrog.bsky.social) reply parent
If this person fired at ICE, then that's... not great. I will admit. The fact that these things keep happening and escalating though, it's just wrong. Cracking down on immigration in any way is not what we should be focusing on right now, and yet it is.
JetBalrog (@jetbalrog.bsky.social) reply parent
Labels can be useful, but they can so often be harmful. This was one such example. People were lumped together who didn't even know the others existed like they were an organized group.
JetBalrog (@jetbalrog.bsky.social) reply parent
The sad part is how those are so deeply intertwined at this point it's hard to tell them apart. They should absolutely be de-tangled from each other. Government is supposed to represent the people, not the businesses.
JetBalrog (@jetbalrog.bsky.social) reply parent
The USA, literally built by immigrants. On every. Single. Level. The founding of the nation, then our infrastructure. When we work together, the world is a better place. It's often that simple.
JetBalrog (@jetbalrog.bsky.social) reply parent
Yeah. Not ideal, either way.
JetBalrog (@jetbalrog.bsky.social) reply parent
Looking at our history books, it's hard to say... but there's a reason why we were taught about the "Trail of Tears". The USA has always been capable of that kind of cruelty. We can't just be complacent and let it happen.
JetBalrog (@jetbalrog.bsky.social) reply parent
Y... yeah. Yeah, I don't know a lot of the specifics of Canada's situation, but I've heard a lot of concerning things there, too. Not as bad as the USA, but. All I can say is, people can't just be complacent, or these things will keep happening.
JetBalrog (@jetbalrog.bsky.social) reply parent
If you ask me, that's going to be the long term fallout of the current political structure. No trust in anything the USA says or does anymore, not to the general public, but to those who should be our allies.
JetBalrog (@jetbalrog.bsky.social) reply parent
I hate to agree with you here, but... yeah. You know it's bad when for YEARS we've had lawyers say: "don't talk to the police." If you must, get a lawyer. Let the lawyer talk for you after talking with them. That's the situation in the USA, and has been for a long time...
JetBalrog (@jetbalrog.bsky.social) reply parent
My mom passed not long ago (don't worry I'm fine) and she left behind a lot of art supplies. Maybe... maybe I should get into those again and try to make something.
JetBalrog (@jetbalrog.bsky.social) reply parent
That just makes it so much worse. Reminds me of how Trump is putting forth a change that wouldn't even make birthright citizenship a thing. Disgusting.
JetBalrog (@jetbalrog.bsky.social) reply parent
Call it murder, call it manslaughter, this person got killed when being detained is what should have happened. Do you seriously think someone should die for not wanting to be thrown into a camp?
JetBalrog (@jetbalrog.bsky.social) reply parent
I literally didn't say that. What I'm saying is, empathy should be used in these situations. Cruelty should not be used as a weapon, compassion should be used to help these people. Compassion that is tempered with reality, sure, but compassion still.
JetBalrog (@jetbalrog.bsky.social) reply parent
He's being taken off life support. It killed him.
JetBalrog (@jetbalrog.bsky.social) reply parent
Can't disagree with that. The abuse in power was always there. Just had to see when it would go that far. If you ask me, that's the point. Push people to the point that this happens and put the blame on the victim. Makes me sick.
JetBalrog (@jetbalrog.bsky.social) reply parent
As tragic as these events are, we have to use them to fuel the fires of getting people involved to stop it. Make the suffering not go to waste. Give it meaning beyond the cruelty.
JetBalrog (@jetbalrog.bsky.social) reply parent
I think about just my stomach medication and the CPAP machine I need to be able to sleep without choking on stomach acid, and realize how little time I would last in one of these places. Not only does it make me sick, it would be a terrifying way to go.
JetBalrog (@jetbalrog.bsky.social) reply parent
I have no idea when this happened, but Canada's government should be up in arms over that. Get pressure put on the US government to stop, and use that incident (and others if/when they happen) to keep pushing pressure. If they keep happening, use them to fuel the fire to make it stop.
JetBalrog (@jetbalrog.bsky.social) reply parent
My family originated from europe, surprise surprise. Greece, Wales, Italy. In the grand scheme of things, my Italian heritage would've put me at risk, too. The more things change, the more they stay the same.
JetBalrog (@jetbalrog.bsky.social) reply parent
No, this is good to bring up, too. We need to know these things are happening, and where, and when. If we miss one, then we should spread information around about the other events, too. It doesn't take away from it, it builds the case for how bad it is. Every instance counts.
JetBalrog (@jetbalrog.bsky.social) reply parent
Yeah... people do not care to know how hard a lot of these people actually work so that they DON'T get sent home. They wouldn't cross illegally if staying where they were was a worse deal than taking the risk in most cases.
JetBalrog (@jetbalrog.bsky.social) reply parent
I hate that this really does feel like a big part of it.
JetBalrog (@jetbalrog.bsky.social) reply parent
And that right there is how it's all held together. Abuse the system, control it through fear, punish those who fall into the system and threaten its stability, not those abusing people.
JetBalrog (@jetbalrog.bsky.social) reply parent
Exactly. Afraid of people stealing jobs, if that's the case, you solve it by making it illegal for companies to hire them, and like you said, make it EASIER for people to become documented residents. That way you can track them, and also HELP them.
JetBalrog (@jetbalrog.bsky.social) reply parent
Hell yeah! Keep it up! I'm pretty close to starting myself and I love to hear about others starting the journey :)
JetBalrog (@jetbalrog.bsky.social) reply parent
I honestly agree, I've just gotten so tired of all the comments I have to block the instant I see 'em. Also, thought I'd just mention I have several trans friends I sent your new album to, haven't heard back from them yet but I know they're gonna love it.
JetBalrog (@jetbalrog.bsky.social) reply parent
And the fact that long-term it'll actually hurt even them more than help them? Doesn't matter to them. "F you got mine." That's how it always goes. I hate it.
JetBalrog (@jetbalrog.bsky.social) reply parent
If that's the case, then I was part of the problem. Oops. Hopefully she gets it sorted soon.
JetBalrog (@jetbalrog.bsky.social) reply parent
I'm with you there. Jenova always felt more like a primary antagonist to me- and even Hojo fits that bill this time around, especially with his extra screen time... and the events of Dirge of Cerberus. Sephiroth trying to break the chains of fate- who's to say it's not to free himself from his role?
JetBalrog (@jetbalrog.bsky.social) reply parent
It makes me wonder if this Sephiroth is somehow free of Jenova's control, while the one actually in the Northern Crater is functionally just Jenova in a Sephiroth skin suit. Maybe that's where they're going.
JetBalrog (@jetbalrog.bsky.social) reply parent
The fact that in the original it can be hard to tell if it's really truly Sephiroth in control or just Jenova doing what she does best to pretend to be those you know after eating their DNA and reading minds? I wish the remake would have leaned in that direction more.

I rate a perfectly inoffensive and boring experience at a solid 5. Nothing that stands out good or bad. Any higher and it has positives to outweigh negatives, anything lower and the negatives out weigh the positives. That also means I rate like nothing a 1, but "good" is anything above a 5 to me.
JetBalrog (@jetbalrog.bsky.social) reply parent
Man, it hurts to see that gas mileage on there. My poor old car is giving out on me and it gets like 14.6 mpg and it suuucks. I don't know why people would do it to their self willingly.
JetBalrog (@jetbalrog.bsky.social) reply parent
Cave Story left a big enough impact on me that my online username's second half was taken from it. Man... twenty years. Still real fun even now, too.

Micro USB has been my bane on durability issues, I would be SO much happier if my headphones could just be USB-C already.
JetBalrog (@jetbalrog.bsky.social) reply parent
Honestly, the Xbox 360 was a fascinating enigma. It had a lot of mid to excellent JRPGs and yet it was a console that never even attempted to tap into that in a marketing sense. What a different world it could have been otherwise.
JetBalrog (@jetbalrog.bsky.social) reply parent
That actually is pretty funny. Side note, I found out I have a previous game the creators worked on and never finished- Magna Carta 2. I should get to playing it soon, I never got far when I played it like almost a decade ago now.
JetBalrog (@jetbalrog.bsky.social) reply parent
Replicant definitely feels like one of THE games that isn't for everyone. Automata is a lot more welcoming to a general audience with a more natural game flow (Platinum Games definitely helped there) while Replicant was... made by the people who made Drakengard. Talk about "when is it fun" as a game
JetBalrog (@jetbalrog.bsky.social) reply parent
Legitimately I started feeling a bit physically ill and just went and played a game I'm wanting to finish again. I feel better. Still a bit ill. But better.
JetBalrog (@jetbalrog.bsky.social) reply parent
It gave me serious anxiety the moment I looked. I regretted every second of it.
JetBalrog (@jetbalrog.bsky.social) reply parent
Honestly I feel like that's not even a bad thing in most cases. You're in your "me" space, decompressing, enjoying your time. Unless it's urgent, that stuff can wait. Self care is important :)

Absolutely. Art being corporate just give me the worst feeling. We lose so much in treating *anything* corporatized when it should just be for the joy of creating something. Make some money if you can, sure, but making money shouldn't be the primary goal...
JetBalrog (@jetbalrog.bsky.social) reply parent
"Storyteller" if you have to have a label is a much more appealing one anyway. Feels far less corporate, a lot cozier.
JetBalrog (@jetbalrog.bsky.social) reply parent
It really feels like it works best when the person making the media is aware of the vibe it gives. In some places, it doesn't quite feel right... but with the right overall impression, it couldn't be better.
JetBalrog (@jetbalrog.bsky.social) reply parent
I can tell you're having the time of your life making these and it brings me joy to see. I love it.
JetBalrog (@jetbalrog.bsky.social) reply parent
No joke, this really was legitimately lifechanging for me at the time. The sheer amount of time I spent just playing in the reflections? Yeah. Sometimes simple is fine.
JetBalrog (@jetbalrog.bsky.social) reply parent
Nothing like looking at it up close here to see the flaws, hah. It's not done yet, still needs some slight shading and an outline to match the game's aesthetic.
JetBalrog (@jetbalrog.bsky.social)
Working on a mod for the game Rabbit and Steel on a whim. Slow progress on someone who really needs to practice, but I like it so far.
