Of course, there's a point at which insanity becomes moral depravity. Somewhere on the sliding scale from "choosing to believe lies" to "choosing to repeat lies" to "choosing to act upon lies in such a way as to harm others" you've pretty much given up the game. Epistemology is an ethical concern.
Jon F. Zeigler (@jfzeigler.bsky.social)
Some days it’s hard to tell which is worse: the insanity in high places, or the moral depravity. It’s particularly hard to take when it’s coming on full blast from people who really ought to know better.

What with one thing and another, I'm not going to have any tai chi classes for a couple of weeks. The senior center had to shut down this week, and our coach is out of town next week. I'm probably going to be doing some practice at home, and spending more time than usual working on Projects. (2/2)
Jon F. Zeigler (@jfzeigler.bsky.social)
Mostly incremental progress yesterday and today. Collated playtester comments, had a meeting with my collaborators (which was pretty productive), knocked out slides for the fall seminar, did some research for the current story. Might be able to start the next chapter soon. (1/2) #writing
Jon F. Zeigler (@jfzeigler.bsky.social)
I still didn't get any new work done on the Cultural Evolution Game today, but I was crazy productive nonetheless. Did planning for September, spent an hour or so studying mathematics, knocked out a few PowerPoint slides, and wrote about 2,500 words of new prose narrative. Not bad at all. #writing

Well. The relevant time-scales are a *little* different.
Jon F. Zeigler (@jfzeigler.bsky.social)
Planning for September 2025 I was pretty busy throughout August, reaching several milestones, so I'm reasonably happy with how things went. In general, I seem to be adapting pretty well to retirement - I'm having no trouble at all in filling my days, and if anything I still don't feel as if I have…

I also knocked out about 1,300 words of narrative prose. I may be able to finish another chapter by mid-week. The new story seems to be leading my Muse to go hyperactive on me. Did *not* get much done on the Cultural Evolution Game today, but hopefully tomorrow will be better on that front. (2/2)
Jon F. Zeigler (@jfzeigler.bsky.social)
Incremental progress today. I worked on my "Getting the Astronomy Right" seminar for this fall. That's going to be a 45-minute lecture on the current state of astronomy for world-building: the likely distribution of Earthlike worlds, the results of exoplanetary science, and so on. (1/2) #writing

Bookmarking this. I did an oral-history interview on my way out the door back in April, but that was fairly routine, it didn’t focus on the current nonsense.
Jon F. Zeigler (@jfzeigler.bsky.social)
I was kind of useless today, aside from finishing another chapter of the current story. Tomorrow I need to get back to the Cultural Evolution Game, and work on my slide deck for my seminar for this fall. Honestly, I think I may be fighting a little burnout at the moment. Hopefully it will pass.

I'm seeing incremental but definite improvement in the muscle tone in my legs and in my balance. Not to mention starting to get some of the basic elements down well enough I can practice a little at home. This was a good post-retirement decision. Didn't get much creative work done today ... (2/3)
Jon F. Zeigler (@jfzeigler.bsky.social)
I have to say, tai chi is the most fun I've been having with *exercise* since, well, ever. Our instructor keeps changing things up every week, pushing us to try new forms, and there are short discussions of the philosophy in between. Gives my brain something to do besides mindless repetition. (1/3)

No, most likely I’m going to Philcon, a convention outside Philadelphia in November.
Jon F. Zeigler (@jfzeigler.bsky.social)
Spent most of today working on material for the fall cons: character sheets and bios for a Star Trek game, the first bits of a slide deck for a "getting the astronomy right in SF" seminar. Tomorrow is tai chi, but that's about it, so I hope to take care of a few more creative tasks. #writing
Jon F. Zeigler (@jfzeigler.bsky.social)
Really busy today - tai chi, bar trivia, *and* about 1,000 words of prose narrative. Posted the first chapter for my next story. Also did a little work on games for Philcon, and collated a bunch of playtest comments for the Cultural Evolution Game. Tuesdays aren't usually this productive. #writing
Jon F. Zeigler (@jfzeigler.bsky.social)
Another day of incremental progress. Finished putting together character sheets for a Philcon game, and banged out another 1,600 words or so of narrative prose. Tomorrow is the worst day I have all week for creative work, so we'll see how things go. Might be able to finish a small task. #writing
Jon F. Zeigler (@jfzeigler.bsky.social) reply parent
Sure, I'm putting together complete packages for the players, including character sheets and bios - these are all assuming my personal "Lower Decks" continuity, of course. I hope to be finished with those in another day or two, I'll send you a copy if you want.
Jon F. Zeigler (@jfzeigler.bsky.social)
Felt a bit under the weather today, but I still managed to be productive. Read and filed a lot of playtester comments, started putting together character sheets for a "Star Trek Adventures" game for Philcon, and wrote about 1,000 words of new narrative prose. More tomorrow. #writing
Jon F. Zeigler (@jfzeigler.bsky.social)
Got the current draft of the Cultural Evolution Game sent off to collaborators and playtesters. Which means I'm free to work on other things for the next few days. Currently starting my next bit of prose fiction, and working on a game I'll be running for the fall conventions. #gamedesign #writing
