The first Ivy Bees are on the wing at Swaddywell NR, the males flying low over sandy ground or perching watchfully on dead plants, waiting for the females to emerge. They are amazing ecosystem engineers, creating bare ground ideal for spring annuals such as Thyme-leaved Sandwort #invertebrates
