I saw it opening weekend with one of my aunts. Was a cool experience. When Michael Keaton grabbed that mugger and says “I’m Batman”, that was definitely a moment. Not many realize what a big deal that movie’s release was.
A future EiAD character, perhaps?

In memory of Robert Redford, I’m watching “Spy Game” (2001). Great performances from Redford and Pitt.
Yeah. He likes being seen as a hero, in that dimension, but he doesn’t revel in the carnage that occurs when he’s “bringing peace by any means necessary”. It’s a means to an end.
When he annihilated that group who had held hostages, that was almost cathartic.

Someone posted this excerpt from an interview with Mike Nochols explaining why he didn’t cast Redford in “The Graduate”, despite Redford really wanting to be in it. Made me chuckle, reading Redford being puzzled at the question that Nichols asked him.

I remember Newman saying that his company’s donations to charity outgrossed all of his movies, put together, and he was very proud of that. Made jokes about wishing he had done better at the box office.

Reminds of when I went to who was my usual optometrist shortly after I began my career and got health insurance. I called ahead and they said they take that insurance. Great. After I have the exam and look to get my new glasses, they told me they don’t take my insurance. Was steep out-of-pocket.

Same here. When I saw “Robert Earl Jones”, I scratched my head. Was an interesting factoid. He was great in his scenes and conveyed the racism of when the story took place.
That was his father, Robert. The credits threw me off and I looked it up for clarification.

I recently rewatched “The Sting”. He and Newman were great together. The “twist” worked because Redford acted in a way that you believed he’d be an opportunist saving his own skin.

Me neither. I get it that some art will go up in value, over time. However, this many orders of magnitude is ridiculous! Pricing many fans out.

A listing on Heritage for the original art for a 5-page Archie story by Dan DeCarlo that I had been bidding on ended with the final price (including buyer’s premium) of $4500. WTF?! These were going for a few hundred dollars last year. Frustrating shift in the market.

Definitely. The seller held up two copies: the faded one and a copy with the colors darker for $350. I couldn’t drop that much so I went with the other copy for $175. No regrets.
That’s close to how my copy looks: the colors are lighter than they should be. But if you didn’t know that, it’d look pristine, otherwise. Bought my copy for $175 back in 2003. Very steep for a broke college student, but no way I’d be paying current prices for a copy.
