We stopped at two kids for two reasons. One was health/state of the NHS under Tories/difficulty accessing care. Second was cost. I was a stay at home dad for 10 years, which we just about managed financially, but it wasn’t feasible to carry on that way and go for number 3.
At some point I’ve got to go back and finish the satirical novel I was writing when the Tories fell last year. It no longer seemed relevant. It was set a few years hence and figured an MP framed for the murder of a colleague when he wouldn’t vote for machine guns nests firing at refugees at Dover.
What baffles me is this government watched the Tories chase Farage into the electoral bin and seem to think it will work out differently for them? Even now when the red lights are flashing they just push on harder. It makes no sense.
Low birth rates don’t worry me. The realisation we need a different economic model that doesn’t destroy the earth linked to lower birth rates is the issue. But Musks needs consumers, ever more consumers, and perhaps some other issues close to his heart, drives his concern.
It’s weird to be told day in and day out by the media (including various podcasts I follow as media ofc) that immigration is a massive concern. When for myself, my family, my friends, my neighbours, my work colleagues, the concern is the racists trying to make immigration a massive concern…

I have a sister in law who was a refugee. My best tutor at Uni was a refugee. My barber was a child refugee (he’s all grown now). My favourite manager at the job I worked while I was at uni was also once a refugee. This gov has lost me too, I suspect for good now, unless they repent.
Brexit started the paving. I am still stunned so many important MPs of the parliaments that had to deal with it couldn’t see that. What a failure of the MPs who couldn’t see it for what it was. But you’re right about today and this government. What started in 2016 continues today.

We were going thru the Life in the UK Test with friends from Hong Kong (we sponsored them a few years back) who are taking it next year and the question on British values and how wonderful we are did seem ironic now…at gov level. Not to them, but to us, they’re happy to have relocated still.

A few years ago, in the gristly afterbirth of Brexit’s birth, a Ghanaian colleague asked me what happened to the UK? And I said, well we can’t just go and colonise everyone else now, so we’ve colonised ourselves, are now extracting our wealth and to send overseas to tax havens. We had a good laugh.
I think it might be all the guns? Still, if you get a tyrannical government all those gun lovers will be able to rise up and overthrow it and restore democracy. So there’s that. And guns and an unceasing, baffling and shaming mountain of dead kids. Choices.
Just shits me to tears. All the unending racism and the failure of government to tackle it, and instead they facilitate.

I'm using AI to build an app. It's a working but it's not yet doing all I want. The AI agent is incredibly optimistic. Each time a build fails it's determined it'll get it right next time, even when it's stuck in a fail loop. You must intervene to end. The gov strategy division must be an AI.

Those books are why my teenage daughter could care less about TikTok and reads voraciously, and has started to venture out of the romantacy genre. I recall as a teenager gobbling up Raymond E. Feist books. Not exactly highbrow literature but fun and got me reading. The ignorant snob can do one. 🙌

Is this AI doing subtitles? I’ve noticed a serious decline in their reliability (and mostly have them on because of all the bloody hushed talking and mumbling that happens in modern shows), but none as genius as this.
