This is so well said. Thank you. Can I also add that this game needs to be centered around multiplayer. If I join the game with friends I shouldn't have to fly across the solar system to meet them. When we log out together we should be able to log in together at the same location. I think like DayZ.

I hate admitting it but yes to me it is very fun and I might even spend a whole weekend doing it which is very sad. It would be more meaningful if I could say "yeah, I'm a developer" but I'm not- I'm just a nerdy enthusiast.
And I have to mention that I use AI to determine which ones to use since AI can understand what op codes or whatever the file uses. So if something uses a bunch of loops then AI will say "well use this." But if it's heavy math stuff then it's going to give me a different answer.
I just learned that Ubuntu used -O3 and learn that in many cases it didn't speed things up at all and quite the opposite. So I do a combination of-O2 with two or three of the -O3 options. So I get the performance without the binary bulk but these also depend on what operations the file uses.
I probably have to mention, or should have mentioned in my original post, that building these applications for performances probably more educational value than anything. I could swear my games are running smoother though but it could be my imagination too. I'm really bad at actually benchmarking it

I did compile Firefox also and steam proton but photon uses a container and within that container is a really old tool chain. I asked the developers if there was a newer container somewhere and he kind of barked at me saying it would make everything incompatible. Well okay. That's how it goes
Yes, and that's the obvious choice but years ago I tried to install it and it crashed during the install process. After I kind of reviewed some of the libraries and they were a little outdated as well as the tool chain but this may have all changed since then.
