Ugh, I just discovered that I had "Ultra HDR" enabled on my phone camera and it's probably been on ever since I got it. I just thought the camera sucked. I mentioned it to one of my photography buddies and he said "You mean you like having some detail under your color?"

I remember being at the Monkey Tree in Yellowknife that day when the news came in. The staff knew some of the crew that was on the flight. Things turned somber very quickly that night.

What if your pleasure reading is philosophy and psychology? I have a hard time engaging with fiction. But when I read "academic" material, I become enthralled. I'm currently reading The Great Good Place by Roy Oldenburg, and I have a hard time putting it down.

Bring up any issues to town council meetings, or write letters to political representatives in government. Establish a resident community association, include EVERYONE in the community. All because you are going to a Third Place within walking distance of your home.
JoldaxPrime (@joldaxprime.bsky.social) reply parent
It's an opportunity to observe reality as it is. Come across some litter, so you pick it up and put in a garbage can that's a few steps away. Get to know the faces of people living on the streets. Learn their names, learn their stories. Empathize and show them compassion. This can feed into action.
JoldaxPrime (@joldaxprime.bsky.social) reply parent
This allows you to see who's in the neighborhood, see storefronts, view/monitor public spaces, etc. This feeds into an observation of communal spaces. Maybe there's a pothole, damaged stop sign, graffiti, newly planted flowers, etc. Stopping to smell the roses isn't just to appreciate beauty (cont)
JoldaxPrime (@joldaxprime.bsky.social) reply parent
Another interesting thing to think about is the method of transportation to the third place. Third Places should be reachable by universal transport (walking, biking, public transportation, etc), in doing so, one is able to see others in transit, and be seen in transit.

It's important to remember this. And it's also important to give yourself the grace and kindness you give others. We're all human, we're all capable of beautiful and ugly things. Hold yourself and others accountable, but also grant them the opportunity to grow and heal. We're all in this together.
