I know there are a million writers and artists who want to be able to speak publicly about this, but due to the power dynamic of the publisher in question cannot. Jobs in comics are already hard to come by, let alone livable page rates, so if you can speak up, please do.
Imagine thinking Labor Day of all days -- as one of the highest editorial positions at a premiere publisher -- was the day to announce use of AI in art was "unavoidable" to your audience of primarily artists and other creatives. Talk about completely disrespectful and out of touch.
I feel so badly for any artists that have to work with this guy so they can get a paycheck. Because this is a slap in the face of artists everywhere. Marvel needs to get rid of Tom ASAP.
The next time someone tries to shame you for pirating a Marvel comic just remind them that one of Marvel's top editors is pro-art theft 🫡
Marvel wasn't seeing a dime from me outside of Ultimates, and it seems that will continue to be the case. "I know this is dangerous, but look how quirky this is 🤪" is a piss poor take from one of your lead editors and shows zero commitment to defend the artists you're working with. Shame and ugly.
