When we got a call from Johns Hopkins they had lungs if we “wanted” them. I immediately thought this was a god send. The donor was a 14 year old girl. Holly wasn’t sure. But that didn’t last long. You have to consider there are many more kidney procedures than lung transplants.
We feared delays in her clearance. They do a check list of tests - and there are varying thresholds. We passed those, the surgeon was interested in Holly’s AO- blood. We were on the list one day. The call came. We drove to Johns Hopkins close to midnight while the lungs were en route.
