Every morning commute is like this. Daily episode of Final Destination. TXDOT is going to kill as many people as it takes to get just one more lane, bro

TXDOT has basically made I-35 as unsafe as possible in Austin in order to ram through a highway expansion and every truck in Texas seems to be taking this opportunity to drive through with oversize loads. 2 of them appear to have collided today and completely shut down I-35 South during rush hour

Southwest Airlines, unfortunately, still does that. It's especially fun when the mobile version is missing features that you often need from the desktop site but they simply refuse to let you see them on a phone

This was responding to a specific line from Trump, he has been very outspoken against sending ANYONE to gulags

You are clearly not ready or able to handle what politics has become. Resign and let someone who is actually willing to fight take the reins

I think this is the second Martin-signed memo where I've seen this but does anyone know why he crosses out the names of the people it's addressed to and then rewrites them by hand?

Based on their subreddit I'm getting the impression that a significant amount of them are not
Jon (@jonflowers.bsky.social) reply parent
Is this because of the changes they made to let them send out those email blasts about the buyouts and stuff?

Feels like you could have picked a better quote here based on that insane press conference

What. Two days after the judge already responded? What are we doing here
Jon (@jonflowers.bsky.social) reply parent
We're just on here saying anything now I guess

But breweries are great because they are generally universally "kid friendly". Tons of the ones in Austin have playgrounds or other activities and generally fill that "casual hangout spot" niche
Jon (@jonflowers.bsky.social) reply parent
Austin (and presumably Texas as a whole) is bizarre because it appears to be up to the owner. Some bars that are basically glorified restaurants (Revelry) insist on 21+ at all times (even during the day). Some complete dive bars with no food options (Yellow Jacket) will let kids in all the time.
Jon (@jonflowers.bsky.social) reply parent
I've seen people post stuff like this before, about how backwards the US is because we don't seem to allow playgrounds next to bars. But....we do....here in Austin for example we have those all over the place. There's a ton of breweries and other venues with built-in playgrounds. And it's awesome.

There's really no universal masking anywhere in the world right now is there? Are you saying like 2020-level mandatory masks anywhere? I just don't think there's any country that would fit that requirement anymore right?

The best part about this is how mad it's making the Musk fanboys
Jon (@jonflowers.bsky.social) reply parent
No Elon fan but this is a longstanding joke that far precedes him; I'm assuming he took it from when Kerbal Space Program made it popular, and it was a joke among rocket scientists/engineers (and others) well before that
Jon (@jonflowers.bsky.social) reply parent
Since the sidewalk nearby actually looks decently wide, I am assuming that walkway is actually mean for people getting into and out of cars that are parked in those spaces? To avoid accidentally dooring cyclists? If the parking *must* be there then that's kind of nice to have i guess

I would say that is a perfect summary of both why RFK's pick seems to be popular even among non-Trump voters, and why Polis is showing support for his policies.
Jon (@jonflowers.bsky.social) reply parent
This exact "rebuttal" is exactly the type of response that I am guessing Polis is trying to avoid with his statement.
Jon (@jonflowers.bsky.social) reply parent
Anecdotally, I have seen a surprisingly large number of friends who absolutely did not support Trump but have posted in favor of RFK coming in, specifically focusing on the "anti-chemical" idea. I think Polis is thinking that he doesn't want Democrats to be the "pro-chemical" party in voters' minds
Jon (@jonflowers.bsky.social) reply parent
I certainly don't think RFK is worth reporting, but I absolutely think this is a pragmatic decision on his part. I've noticed he seems to be focusing on stuff like "chemicals in food" which I think has a far wider consistency of people worried about it than you would think
Jon (@jonflowers.bsky.social) reply parent
Not going to sound like that when we see this exact quote 2 million times in the midterm campaign ads that's for sure lmao
Jon (@jonflowers.bsky.social) reply parent
Some examples I saw in this vein. These posts are all in the same genre: people posting insane nonsense that makes them look like idiots, simply to get people to comment and yell at them, so they get more "engagement". Every time I opened Threads for a few weeks my whole feed looked like this
Jon (@jonflowers.bsky.social) reply parent
If I were you I would keep that up haha, this one is far superior especially after the massive growth and migration over the last few weeks
Jon (@jonflowers.bsky.social) reply parent
It's hard to describe in a really short summary without experiencing it but most of the posts the algorithm surfaces are people posting as if their house has a gas leak and it's rotting their brain
Jon (@jonflowers.bsky.social) reply parent
You mean you don't enjoy opening up the app to see your feed immediately filled with a hundred people posting stuff like "hey, when your water bottle is empty, do you usually refill it from the toilet tank or the toilet bowl? I told my friends I always use the TANK and they think I'm CRAZY!"
Jon (@jonflowers.bsky.social) reply parent
I do think she actually means Threads, the *other* big Twitter replacement, which while supposedly having a huge user base feels like an empty shell of a social media platform with no real useful posts or engagement
Jon (@jonflowers.bsky.social) reply parent
Alarming to see a podcaster I enjoy post a picture from very near my house. Was not prepared for this. What do I do
