If farmers want workers, they're going to need to make better wage offers until the workers show up, and then pass the cost along to customers. And then customers flee, and the farm sells to a corporate conglomerate. And that's the end-goal, more concentration of wealth.
JovialJovian (@jovial-jovian.bsky.social) reply parent
Many jobs are dangerous, many jobs are harder than they need to be due to out-dated equipment. Typically the company makes up for that with better pay. Oil rigs are a *terrible* work environment, and extremely dangerous, but the pay is excellent, so they have no issues finding workers.

JovialJovian (@jovial-jovian.bsky.social) reply parent
The low pay is the big issue. There would be workers if the pay was good, just like there are for any hard labor. But many farms have become dependent on under-paid immigrant labor, and now simply can't imagine paying real wages for labor, instead they demand "a solution."

This was an abhorrent act of violence, but is hardly coming out of nowhere. His own rhetoric was highly inflammatory, as has been the rhetoric spewing from the right for years. Just a few days ago the President of the United States threatened to invade and burn down Chicago.
