Fraser Ellard was also called up. Mike Clevinger is not among the initial moves, contrary to what I heard in Nashville. Based on the reaction, many may not regret the error, but I do.
White Sox added Fraser Ellard and Bryan Ramos from Triple-A Charlotte as rosters expand. Ellard is expected to start.
Down in Nashville, @soxmachine.com hears that Mike Clevinger is being called up to the White Sox. I was told he’s not starting, fwiw.
Colson Montgomery now has a "modified" torpedo bat that he feels is more modeled to his swing than previous versions, giving him more meat at the end of his barrel than a typical torpedo. Yes, of course he homered with it. soxmachine.com/2025/08/whit...

Aaron Civale was claimed off waivers by the Cubs, so the White Sox will need a new starter for tomorrow in Minnesota. Maybe it will be Bryse Wilson, since the Sox purchased his contract from Charlotte.

Shane Smith: 6.1 IP. 3 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 7 K, 2 HR, 58 of 97 pitches for strikes, with 29 called strikes/whiffs. He's looked more like the guy who made the All-Star team as the month of August has gone on: 2.67 ERA in 33.2 IP with 31 K.

White Sox lose to the Yankees, 10-4 What chance the Sox had to restrain the Yankee offense was immolated by three fielding errors, one of which led to Miguel Vargas leaving with a scary-looking injury. Sox are 48-86, and have played very bad baseball on back-to-back nights.
White Sox say Miguel Vargas departed the game with a left wrist contusion, and "will undergo further testing tomorrow." His wrist was bent back upon colliding with Aaron Judge, as he reached into the baseline while pursuing an errant throw. Judge, I can confirm, is a very large man.
Davis Martin went 3.2 IP, 4 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 3 BB, 5 K, 2 HR, 50 of 81 pitches for strikes, with 23 called strikes/whiffs. He's going to be cranky about those walks. His ERA hopped up to 4.03.

Aaron Civale: 4.2 IP, 5 H, 5 ER, BB, 4 K, HR, 59 of 86 pitches for strikes, 21 called strikes/whiffs. He threw four scoreless innings on 60 pitches. Then he couldn't escape the fifth. Big innings have been an issue. Civale's ERA is 5.26 on the year.
If box of rocks has option years left, at least that offers roster flexibility

Chris Getz said Luis Robert Jr. has a Grade 2 hamstring strain. He conceded that Robert might be done for 2025. Asked how this affects the decision for his $20 million option for 2026, Getz said “We’re committed to Luis”
