This fear mongering isn’t about public safety — it’s about power. When leaders spread lies about crime, they lay the groundwork for authoritarian policies and the erosion of our rights. New Yorkers have seen this playbook before, and we reject it.
Donald Trump, and those like him including Mayor Adams and former Governor Cuomo, are pushing a false narrative to stoke fear. And all three would agree, there’s never money or resources for housing and healthcare, but always unlimited funds for police and armies.
Megalomaniacs and would-be fascists have to manufacture acute danger and crises to justify extreme, undemocratic measures, even when the facts say otherwise. The reality is that violent crime in DC is down significantly — the safest it’s been in 30 years, according to the federal government.
