I regret to report that every time I sit down and write, even if I really don't feel like it, I make progress on my novel.
Completely tangential, but I've read very little SFF the last few years, and to come back and see so many books being published that look like they were written just for me? It's literally been a bright spot the last couple of months.
Worth remembering that any time I say "It's happening," I'm talking about the release of an isekai fantasy novel by writing duo Ilona Andrews, which I only recently discovered is occurring next March!
I don't believe it for a second, this weekend, but it really is nice to see people come together in optimism, in these trying times.

I have within me the knowledge that I watched at least several episodes of this when it aired, but I have absolutely no memory of the actual show. Wild.
I rewatched a couple of eps not too long ago--including the one where the bar staff try to unionize--and realized I've only ever watched it once, 20ish years ago, so it'll practically be like a new watch at this point.

Yes, I use mine on a weekly, if not daily, basis! I also like owning books by authors whose work I love.
*work I mean it's kind of great, tbh. To sit down and itemize books I want to buy and realize there are so many authors putting out so many good ones into the world that I have to parcel them out and still fall behind.
I am trying to buy significantly fewer books this year than the last few (because I was seriously stress-overspending) and am doing a pretty good job! But omfg the number of books alone by authors whose worked I've loved previously is just. There are so many.

Good morning, Womble! It's been a busy week, so I'm still reading The Institute by Steven King, which I am enjoying even more the further I get into it.
Just watched a YT video on this yesterday, and it included a few clips where the bride smashed cake back in retaliation -- and of course the grooms got upset about that. Grounds for immediate annulment, imo.

Honestly, I don't think you can really go wrong with whatever you pick. Just bearing in mind that some of his earlier stuff isn't as good, but I haven't actively disliked any of the ones I've read :D And there are so many amazing audiobook versions of them. Hope you enjoy whatever you go with!
Nicholas Nickleby is an early one, but I have a big soft spot for it because, while the hero isn't really his most compelling, the side characters in it are incredibly endearing, and it has some great humor. Great Expectations hit me weird the first time I read it, but I really enjoyed on rereading.
weaker ones for later (Oliver Twist, Old Curiosity Shop, haven't read Barnaby Rudge or Martin Chuzzlewit, but seen them ranked around here). Pickwick Papers is fun, but kind of atypical, and it's uneven; I love Tale of Two Cities, but it does have a slightly different style, I think?
So I haven't read all of his novels yet, but I've enjoyed all the ones I have -- though you can definitely tell he got better as he aged. Either side of Copperfield, chronologically, are Dombey and Son and Bleak House, which I think would both be great options. I'd definitely leave some of his 1/2

Held, by Anne Michaels, which I finished this week. Also, I'm currently reading Funny Story, The Institute, and Bel Canto and am pretty sure I'll be reccing all of those when I finish them. The last few months, I've really been focusing on quality* over quantity, and it's been great. *don't @ me

I'm not suggesting people need to love or even read the classics (I read what I did more because of a lack of variety in what was available to me), but like, even if you *do* want to read them, they're not remotely necessary to get into genre fiction.
I got into LOTR because I heard there were movies coming out, when I was 13, and tore through it and a bunch of other classic SFF in my early teens-some of which I loved, some I bounced off of-while at the same time I was voraciously devouring Redwall, Tamora Pierce, and contemporary adult/teen sff.
I feel like this is a lot easier when the classics you grow up with were about, like, how drinking alcohol will turn you into a violent degenerate and people who date around before marriage are Bound For Hell.
