Interesting thread here where Adam presents evidence that Trump has been having mini-strokes x.com/adamscochran...

@adamscochran X.com 1/31 I believe there is growing evidence, that the White House is covering up the fact that Donald Trump has been dealing with TIA strokes. AND that he likely had a more significant ischemic stroke this week.

Imagine if instead of chasing clicks by posting a high volume of content, you got more clicks because you posted a thought provoking piece that encouraged deep discussion within a community and thus caused them to bump your content often

Honestly the death of the bump is probably a societal killer. It sounds like an exaggeration, but this is probably what causes all conversations on modern social media to be vapid, shallow, and ephemeral. Ideas must be built over time, and the bump resurfaces those ideas.

I have an interesting observation: Pretty much all modern social media platforms do not let you bump discussion threads to keep them alive for longer than a day. Complex ideas take weeks and months to develop though. You know how 1984 had Newspeak that was designed to prevent critical thinking? Hmm

App for women to anonymously share bad experiences w/men verified users by asking for a selfie and their driver's license...& now their database has allegedly been breached: www.404media.co/women-dating... Maybe app should have deleted those drivers' license scans after verifying identities, eh?

This, and it doesn't work. Now, it is possible to address the harms of mass engagement-driven platforms. But doing so requires pushing back on the core biz models of the platforms, not tinkering on the edges w surveillant 'solutions' that increase surveillance w/o addressing the root cause.

Trump's new executive order about AI states that companies' models must not incorporate the idea that trans people exist as a concept. Seems bad.

I subscribed to WIRED because for a while you were the only ones really reporting on the stuff DOGE was doing. I'm not sure what role you may have played in that, but if you were a part of that then thank you!

Okay! I do still think it's a reasonable question (not an accusation!) that everyone should ask about every source. I'm tired of constant negativity online though, so I'll leave you with something positive: Thank you for your hard work in covering the stuff happening in the federal government!

Hi! I don't want to unfairly accuse y'all of any wrongdoing, but this does seem like a real, documented problem. I'd be curious to understand how your team avoids this?

Consequences of years of lousy and extractive US social media platforms. People want to leave; they just need somewhere better to go.
