I mean, it’s also very useful, but I’m mainly voting for it because it looks cool. You know the throne of swords from Game of Thrones? It kinda looks like the back of that. #Okenite apparently can be bendy in its little tiny puffball crystal fibers which is pretty cool too, I guess. 😂
kadusey (@kadusey.bsky.social) reply parent
I used to think kohl (used as black eyeliner historically, like the ancient Egyptians) was made from, like, charcoal, but no, it is made from antimony. #Stibnite forms in hydrothermal deposits. Both minerals form under similar circumstances but stibnite gets my vote today b/c it looks really cool 🤷♀️
kadusey (@kadusey.bsky.social)
#Okenite is round and white and like a puffball, and is often found in geodes (which, again, form in vugs, often in volcanic rocks). #Stibnite is a type of antimony and forms really cool black spiky crystals that fan out from a center point. If you grind it and mix it with fat you get kohl.

And in the end, I think he came up with a take on grace a lot more genuine than any number of paintings of Extremely White Jesus in freshly laundered robes on cloud background. Thus endeth the screed.

And the point of this photograph is to bring that moment to life and show the grace of this man’s god shining through all the filth and dross of mortal existence. And it does it really fucking well, if you ask me. It fucking GLOWS.

Despite all the religious art, poor dudes in Galilee did not wear white and people who hang around lepers get a lot of nasty shit on them. You have a human god so that they can say “I was one of you, I understand, I went to the hard places where I was needed.” Grace, embodied.
Kingfisher & Wombat (@tkingfisher.com) reposted reply parent
And the whole point of having a god embodied on earth is that they are down there, on earth, being human! Which means dirt and blood and piss and a host of other bodily fluids. That’s why you HAVE a god like that in the first place.
Kingfisher & Wombat (@tkingfisher.com) reposted reply parent
The places where you actually NEED grace are filthy and bloody and despairing. Grace is the last cigarette shared in the gutter, the hand of the dying being held by the stranger, the kindness done by the broken.

yes. tasting fabrics is one of the easiest ways to test fiber composition. natural fabrics, such as wool, cotton, and linen, breakdown in the digestive tract. synthetics such as polyester will not. so to test fiber composition, eat the garment. if fibers appear in your poop, it was synthetic.
