MSNBC is not where I work, which is NBC, and the two are pretty editorially independent, but share the same owner, but really soon MSNBC will be named MSNow, and be a totally separate company in a different building, but you can still catch midday streaming coverage of NBC's news on NBC News Now.

Spoke w/Tom Wheeler, Carr's predecessor, about the pressure on media orgs to bow to Trump. What he's doing is legal, if unprecedented. If somebody stood up and forced a potentially unfair FCC ruling, they could challenge in court. But they don't, and his "incredible coercive power" goes unchecked.

I can say that anecdotally, for my parents — both seniors in West Virginia — the covid shot was significantly harder to get this year. They considered driving to Ohio where it's easier, but eventually were able to find a pharmacy that gave it to them.

OpenAI and Sam Altman said today, notably ahead of a Senate Judiciary Committee on AI safety, that their solution to ChatGPT's teen safety problem is to have AI guess if a person is underage and default them to the teen version. No word on kids 12 and younger, who are simply not supposed to use it.

Folks are treating this is a big new step OpenAI is taking. But all LLMs were already constantly using people's chats with them for training. They're all subpoenable. They have safety measures to flag genuinely worrisome behavior — advice for how to shoot a school, CSAM — that will surely misfire.

A lone cybercriminal used Anthropic's vibe-coding LLM to automate a massive spree that hacked and extorted 17 companies. It did almost everything for him: Scoped out who to hack and how, organized the hacked material, helped him decide how much to ask each company for and wrote his extortion emails.
