number of union members increased from 14.01m in 2021 to 14.26m in 2024. if you consider these workers no longer unionized- as they're no longer represented by a CBA- the loss of these workers in a month is almost twice as large as all the increase in organizing in this huge cultural movement

Not just unfinished but the fight to organize all workers on an industrial scale was straight up *lost.* unions really screwed the pooch on keeping up with tech changes and a shifting economy. CWA is a prime example; it’s not like there’s fewer tech workers than there used to be!
I credit a lot of my current thinking to going on strike for 2.5 days with @cwaunion.bsky.social and honestly it was the *lack of* organization, but the support of socialists, they spurred me to start taking more action.

The easy answer is winning unions for workers, but before that, I loved at AT&T when I would genuinely help a customer We used to have basically free rein over the prepaid system to add/remove money so I’d throw poor people a free month when someone super needed it. Wish I had done it more

There’s some workers who have no legal rights to form unions (farmworkers and domestic labor) but the workers explicitly forbidden from unionizing are soldiers and prisoners
