I have absolutely despised & had fear of talking on the phone since I was a tiny child, same for video calls. I avidly dislike seeing my own reflection. Yes, it's hard to discern tone in text, but EMOJIS help a lot! 😲🤔I try to ask what is meant by a statement if confused.
There's a bit of a misconception that autistic people can't pick up on facial cues... probably because some autistic people actually can't... but this is not even close to a universal experience.
Autistic people take things literally **when context is missing** and they don't have enough information to make logical inferences about what the other person might be trying to communicate beyond their actual words.

Officially undiangosed; been suicidal since I was 11. Had a stroke last year just before my 50th bday. I survived, but at what cost. I was physically disabled before, now it's mind & body disabled. All because my parents are/were deniers.
To be clear...this is the pipeline many autistic people experience **when our needs aren't met.** This post is not meant to be alarmist. It's meant to point out that when we ask for support, we're not just asking for things we want... we're pleading for things we NEED.
I think I figured out how to sum up the (unsupported) autistic experience into a single pipeline... Constant & unrelenting autistic triggers → constant micro-traumas → masking → internalized autism → distinct anxiety + autistic burnout → harmful coping strategies + physical/mental health issues
