Corporate mergers come with a cost, especially if they need approval from government entities. The CEOs and their very wealthy shareholders had to give Trump what he demanded so they could make more money for themselves. We have increasingly carefully curated news as a result.

The right did get change. It may not be what they all wanted, but change for the worse is still change.

I think it will depend on the state and how vigilant our states, counties and/or cities are. A lot of our officials are scared to death of Trump and MAGA. Threatening to kill the children of judges and elected officials, as well as the officials themselves, is despicable.

In some states, yes. Nationally, I don't know.

If the majority you refer to include the 3rd of voters who didn't vote, you may be right, unless they still don't care.

I wonder if Reagan would be satisfied or appalled with what he wrought. His policies created the opening for Trump's actions.
klynne735.bsky.social (@klynne735.bsky.social) reply parent
Evidently, the slight majority of registered voters who voted, instead of sitting the election out, wanted this. Roughly a third of eligible voters picked Trump. I bet they thought his cruelty, idiocy, greed, and lust for power wouldn't affect them. Imagine if the third that didn't vote had voted.

Maybe it's because South Koreans remember what it was like to live in a dictatorship, and Americans don't.

When my last car died, I couldn't afford another car. I got a bike & rode to/from the commuter train stations in the 3 cities I worked in. I couldn't believe the money I saved by not owning another car! I know it isn't possible for everyone. I didn't think it would work for me either, but it did.

But the tariffs will save us! Besides, Trump's Cabinet cronies say the prices are dropping. Don't trust your lying eyes, trust Trump!

The people who voted for him knew he was going to get rid of services and aid for ordinary people who are not millionaires. Trump voters are getting exactly what they wanted: nothing. Unfortunately, everyone else is also getting nothing. Trump's ballroom, ICE, and silencing Maxwell come first.

klynne735.bsky.social (@klynne735.bsky.social) reply parent
Other nations are not paying the tariffs. US consumers are. The businesses in other nations may lose money because Americans can no longer afford to buy their products. Unless everything I've read or heard about tariffs is wrong, Trump tariffs will hurt Americans more than anyone else.

How do you know? Have you seen evidence? What's the source? If Israeli hostages are being starved to death, Israel controls how much food gets into Gaza. Middle of the road Democrats have not done anything at all. They talk a bit occasionally, but with few exceptions, they've done nothing but wring their hands. They just enjoy the title and the perks that come with being a senator/representative.

It looks like there may be no such thing as free speech in the USA any more. If someone disagrees with Trump, that person can be arrested. Sad and frightening that this administration feels no allegiance to our Constitution and our laws.

I use FOX as a stand-in to represent all the far right media. However, I don't believe they only ask questions. They wouldn't have their reputation if they weren't spewing RW talking points.
klynne735.bsky.social (@klynne735.bsky.social) reply parent
The hostages have probably already been killed by Israel's indiscriminate attacks on Gaza or starved to death because food distribution sites are targets for Israeli snipers. If they are alive, what incentive do the kidnappers have to release them? Israel is not going to stop attacking Gaza.

The media don't report it because most media outlets are now owned by huge corporations which don't care about anything other than profits. If Trump and his tame GOP don't like something, the reporters are muzzled or fired. The exception, MSNBC, must be profitable enough to keep it as liberal it is.

Only a generation or two? That's optimistic. I don't think the US is coming back from this. Our news media are one sided. Between the end of the Fairness Doctrine & corporate buy up of all news media, we don't get different perspectives. Reagan, who I think would be horrified by Trump, started this
