I went to counselling for awhile and one thing we did was for me to think back or imagine myself as a child at some time when I needed love and support. Then I had to imagine the adult me comforting that child me. It really worked for me to imagine myself comforting the young me.
When I was younger, the idea of tea dances in old books was bizarre. Now I think I'd love to get to a tea dance with a good band. I'd drink tea and eat crumpets (not sure what they are) and dance, and I'd be home at 6:00 or 7:00 and be able to go to bed before 10.
