I have both a hedgehog box and I made a snug shelter under my shed, but twice nowI have seen it now on the concrete floor of my shed, and never in the custom places. Indeed I have never seen it at night out and s out.

Hi, There were also a number of records of all three brood in the St Osyth region this and several previous years.
Rob Seago (@lepimann.bsky.social) reply parent
I have been away for a week, but am thrilled to learn of further records.
Rob Seago (@lepimann.bsky.social) reply parent
Last year the one Brian saw was 2nd brood.
Rob Seago (@lepimann.bsky.social) reply parent
That's because it was a long time ago. I am in upper Teesdale until Sunday. Just watching one or perhaps a brood of Nuthatches taking sunflower seeds from inside a feeder and returning within 30 seconds.

I think the warm dry summer, with the peppering of showers may set up a good 2026 for grassland species as the ward is shorter with patches of bare ground and less rankness. Hoping!

Today's Wall Browns at Great Holland pits . Small numbers have appeared now for 3 years. If I remember correctly the previous colonies finally dwindled to nothing in 2008, having been very regular.
Rob Seago (@lepimann.bsky.social) reply parent
Yes. The male was around all afternoon. I will post a few more photos later.
Rob Seago (@lepimann.bsky.social)
I am delighted that I had not 1 but 2 Wall Brown is. The female rebuffed the male as far as I can see, she was previously mated. She went on apparently laying eggs.
Rob Seago (@lepimann.bsky.social)
European hornet apparently after pollen. I sometimes wonder if the hang around Ivy for ambushing bees, butterflies or wasps but this was after pollen. Cannot take nectar I think.

The hairy armpits, (black hairs around wing bases) distinguish it from the also rare, and declining Moss Carders, which has no black hairs at all. It is more jumpy, and usually looks paler, almost lemon colour.
Rob Seago (@lepimann.bsky.social) reply parent
Hi Julian, Yes it certainly is. It was considered very rare, but has had remarkable success in the past 10 years on the Essex Coast.

Rob Seago (@lepimann.bsky.social)
Sea Aster in an unusual form I think. The flowers, which are petalled, are outside the sea wall, where they would normally have no petals, and the flowers are clustered. I saw no Sea Aster, mining bees.
Rob Seago (@lepimann.bsky.social)
A trip to Tollesbury Wick today. Lots of House Martins on the move.

I returned home to Essex from Scotland by train and at 17 years old heard all the live stuff of the landing. I was not allowed to observe the moon walk, and probably had to wait till after tea to see it. Like yesterday, so exciting to me.
