I bet! They just give different perspectives than one might expect. The pirate miners one was fantastic as well. I also liked the mutants from Ming's ship. "FLSH GRDN!"

I adore the recaps from major characters. I think these experimental ones might be even better. (The travel brochure was genius) This puts the events into a historical context, which sells how important this all is. And it's a chance to throw in hints. "Aura I." "Eventually."
That was one of my suspicions. I can totally see Vultan taking the reins early to spite his father.

I love how you put so much information into four panels, and did so showing off their personalities as well. I am very curious as to what Vultan asked Ming for. I have a few suspicions, but nothing concrete as yet.
The prize is "an imperial favor that cannot be refused," not specifically money. Though Flash isn't averse to using the old standbys when they work.

That's a solid plan. There's just one Ming-sized problem: a civil war is a perfect chance to bith retake power and to solidify his position. Even if Ming doesn't know about these talks, he knows Aura will try to have them. I think the real action here will be outside the arena proper.
That is very in character for Mongo! I'm interested in finding out how Flash can help Aura rig it.

That wasn't the only thing I noticed. Aura underestimates Dale just like almost everyone else does. Even Dale herself. I wonder who doesn't.
Wait. WAIT. Last year ended at the 6 month mark. We don't know how long Team Earth was in Frigia and Sky City, so I accepted that. This year's structure was much different. The Caves Have Eyes & Parts Unknown together couldn't have taken more than a couple weeks total. How long was Hard Sun?

I imagine the whole "killed the Deep Chief" thing would make just about anywhere preferable to Shark City! I'm a little surprised to hear that all the water is desalinated as there are at least two underwater nations, but I guess Ming isn't one to care for such things and Aura hasn't had the time.

Three DAYS? Is it because it's not built to work well in atmosphere? But... if so, then wouldn't it need steering? And Flash has a cloak now. It works well with the existing design, but it's an unexplained change. It could have been a token from Edda's people, but... I hope I'm just being paranoid.

I can't help but wonder how she views her marriage. That phrasing... wasn't great, in context. Though I can maybe understand a part of it. They're supposed to be co-rulers, but she seems to be doing it all. That would be very frustrating.

I just realized something. Every other disc led to an isolated area. It looks like Dr. Zarkov came out near a city, if not in one. That means Kira has more allies than we know. That can't be good!

Spying on his own people is totally something Ming would do, and I've realized something else. Azura's not the type to be loyal for loyalty's sake. If the tide turned against Ming, taking out his factories would look very good for her. Being able to teleport down below would facilitate that.
Which means that Team Earth heads back to Earth at some point. Something tells me that Dale's past will be waiting.
The Phantom should be an even better fighter than Flash, but not as used to teamwork. Good thing Flash is used to working with people who have that exact problem!
It's not a brief stay in a forest paradise, deserved adoration from a grateful settlement, or canoodling under the sea (Dr. Zarkov, you sly dog!), but it's pretty nice. Also touching, because Edda and her people are free now.

I love the look on her face. That's not just anger. She's *afraid*, and it's not hard to guess why. I think she's about to be forced into one of those suits. Ming is not merciful.

If it ain't broke...
One of the things I most love about this strip is how you seed tiny details that are crucial weeks or even months later. I've little doubt that we've seen things that will be huge years after their introduction. It rewards investment without taking away from the story.
And then denying Mystique, possibly the single most treacherous person they know, the one thing she wanted.
...she knows Ming's alive. That's why she's not worried. You know, those robots were also seen with the Frigians when they took Sky City. Shame if they suddenly all went haywire and attacked the army, assuming Fria won. Whoever would benefit?
And that's without Sinister and Mystique! Or brainwashed Colossus, for that matter. And even Emma, Storm, and Kitty went off-book to deal with Shaw.
The more I think about it, the more I think it's a miracle that the QC lasted as long as it did. A was visibly done by X of Swords, and he'd have brought it crashing down of his attention wasn't decisively pulled elsewhere. Throw in Mags and Charles' arrogance, and it's a recipe for disaster.

Is the lack of fish because of the Screaming Storm? I love this so much. It's easy to demonize the aggressors, but this shows that Frigians have a range of opinions. Lonzich is loyal and grateful to Fria, but he also trusts Bok to do what must be done even if it defies Fria's current will.

Bok needed this. He certainly deserved it. I hope that Fria changes course before anything bad happens to Lonzich and his people, though a change of heart might not stop the IR. They'll want payback for being defied. That type always does.

I'm glad to see Bok get the treatment he deserves. I also like the implicit reminder that the peoples of Mongo do mix. They'd probably do it more if the leadership weren't at each others throats all the time.
I figured it would be these guys. I guess it was Ovo who pulled Bok to safety. That comment about Fria changing their fortunes for the better probably means that her decision worked out well for the both of them.

Vulcans who are much more emotionally well-adjusted but awful in most other ways could have been fascinating if explored properly.

There is a war coming, but something tells me this place isn't new. Does this lot work for Ming, or do they sell to whoever can buy? Which definitely would have included the UMN... They probably didn't know about conditions if they did, but wouldn't have looked too hard either.
I loved Superman. This movie was even better. Call me Galactus, because as a comics fan I am *eating*!
The only complaint I had is that Ben got a little shortchanged in the story, but more movies can give him more to do. Besides, that was more than balanced by how Johnny was handled. He can be easy to disrespect (and often is!) but was handled super well here.
The Fantastic Four: First Steps FINALLY! Three kicks at the can (technically four), and they got it right. The alterna-60s vibe was immaculate, the soundtrack catchy, and the casting sublime. The writers know their history, and Galactus was suitably epic. Want to see it again on IMAX just for that.
The lack of healthcare, no contact with home, throwing people to grisly deaths... and it's interesting that this is an indirect result of the revolution. I guess you don't always see the collateral damage.
