Weâre all going to die (thanks, Joni Ernst!) but every single gun death is a preventable tragedy. We have proof that better laws and less access/lower lethality reduces deaths. Good gun laws save lives.
And the most common type of gun death is suicide (61% of gun deaths nationally, 48% in MN) where Karenâs argument falls flat. Decades of research shows removing access to guns saves lives, especially in rural MN where suicide rates are higher.
GVP activist here! We say âgun violenceâ because a gun is the most lethal and accessible weapon, and thatâs unique to the U.S. Guns - not cars or fertilizer or whatever - are the most common killer of American children under age 10.

Weâre working on it. Without the DFL trifecta, we wouldnât have been able to pass Minnesotaâs universal background checks and extreme risk protection orders (both in effect 1/1/2024). A single DFL holdout, Sen. Grant Hauschild, kept the legislature from passing a much-needed safe storage law.

MPD does NOT need your $. As of March 2025, since Frey took office in 2018, the city had paid out $73.4 MILLION in claims & lawsuits. Those figures only cover his first 6.5 years in office. Odds are they'll top $75M this year.

Agreed. St Paul is the first city to adopt new building state-wide regulations, and their permitting process is more opaque and intrusive than most other metro cities. It makes StP real estate less predictable and more expensive.

Agreed. This is one downside to having a big tent-style coalition. I definitely donât agree politically with all of our volunteers! BUT Moms Demand Action is the largest grassroots organization in the country, and we didnât get to 10 million volunteers by splitting hairs.

And the Gun Sense Candidate non-endorsement is only on the honor system for first-time candidates. Most Mpls CMs are also Gun Sense Candidates, AND they - especially CMs Chavez, Koski, Ellison, and Chapman - back that up with their words and actions.

It was great to join @swaempls.bsky.social at their recent event, The Mayorâs Record. Community members heard directly from current and former city staff, as well as community leaders, about how the Mayor has failed to build an equitable city for all residents over his eight-year tenure.
đ¨ ACTION ALERT: In order to line the pockets of gun industry allies, Senate Republicans tucked a measure into the budget bill to repeal federal taxes on gun silencers, short-barreled shotguns and rifles, and other deadly weapons. Today, the bill passed through the Senate and now heads to the House.

This year, as we celebrate Pride, we can look back on ten years of marriage equality. Pride has long been a joyful day in Minneapolis, but for all the progress weâve made in Minnesota and across the country, weâve seen a dangerous backlash, particularly targeting the trans community.
My next target is gift bags - my kids donât need candy or plastic trinkets. This year, we gave out hand-written cards saying, âthanks for growing with us!â with a packet of organic seeds.

The federal consent decree over the City of Mpls has been dismissed. This means hundreds of police reforms that the City was supposed to be required to implement are now no longer legally binding. This is another detrimental impact of the Trump administration on our community.

All the credit that Tim Walz got as a VP candidate for good stuff that Minnesota has done? Melissa Hortman (and a bunch of other women) led the hard fight to get bills on his desk and make it politically safe for him to sign.

S Mpls, it was 4-5 intersections at most. The only unrest I saw was the out-of-state trucks speeding on Lyndale after MNDoT closed the freeways.
