That's interesting John, I didn't know that. People move around and language is always evolving I guess. The Norse settlers in the 9th & 10th century made a lasting impact on what is now Cumbria. Many words have Norse origins, e.g. fell, beck, tarn, ghyll, thwaite. Hjem is Norwegian for home.
