And while the right wing story was constantly changing, the police report and the story from the teenagers both remained consistent. The teenagers say that big balls was harassing and trying to pick up the 15-year-old girl, and when he wouldn't leave her alone the boy jumped in to defend her.

Kirk was 31, Fuentes is 27. That's not particularly much of an age difference? Is Fuentes' "Groyper Army" generally much younger than Fuentes himself? This suspect is 22, so that is getting a bit younger than both.

I want people with mental health issues to be able to live good lives, but that doesn't mean they are suited for all jobs. If your mental health episodes make you abusive to your staff, and you can't control it with meds, then you need to not be a boss, and especially not in Congress. I'm sorry.

Live By Reason (@livebyreason.bsky.social) reply parent
It's called NPR. They have no Opinion section. Although they do often call upon subject matter experts, like Doctors, Lawyers, Scientists, and Engineers, to provide technical opinions on matters in the news as the average public can't interpret most data, laws, etc without help.
Live By Reason (@livebyreason.bsky.social) reply parent
The fairness doctrine is clearly unconstitutional though. "Congress shall make NO LAW. . . abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press". A fairness doctrine tells the press what they have to publish. At the end of the day, voters have to learn to actually listen to the good journalists.
Live By Reason (@livebyreason.bsky.social) reply parent
It turns out, people can and do ignore journalism that doesn't tell them what they want to hear. Good journalism can't overcome that problem. There were plenty of good journalists doing reporting before the election, and people ignored them. So here we are.
Live By Reason (@livebyreason.bsky.social) reply parent

Yes - exactly. Smuggling drugs isn't a crime that carries the death penalty, even if it's true. The ship was in international waters, so hadn't committed a crime yet EVEN IF it was headed to US waters. Is there a reason the Coast Guard couldn't have interdicted them in US waters and arrested them?

Ashli Babbit was a veteran is who is dead because of Donald Trump. I would go so far as to say that Donald Trump is guilty of Felony Murder - that is, when you get someone killed while committing a felony. Donald Trump exploited this vulnerable veteran with lies about the election and killed her.
Live By Reason (@livebyreason.bsky.social) reply parent
There are facts, and then there are interpretation of facts, and myths are built on interpretations. Also, lost opportunities. I think most people in Democratic/liberal/progressive political spectrum have missed an important narrative point that should be more publicly discussed:
Live By Reason (@livebyreason.bsky.social) reply parent
That's one way to look at it. Another way to look at is that Donald Trump exploited a vulnerable veteran with mental health issues by his lies for his own attempt to overthrow democracy, and is responsible for her death.
Live By Reason (@livebyreason.bsky.social) reply parent
Westboro Baptist is telling people their loved ones will burn in hell. This isn't protesting the deceased. This is trying to keep Trump from turning this into unchallenged propaganda of what a hero and victim Babbitt was, while washing his hands of all responsibility. He has blood on his hands.
Live By Reason (@livebyreason.bsky.social) reply parent
It's almost surprising Trump would just LET him say those things. . . Make you go hmmmm.
Live By Reason (@livebyreason.bsky.social) reply parent
But it should also be noted that when Trump makes things up, Republicans in Congress usually jump to make them become true.
Live By Reason (@livebyreason.bsky.social) reply parent
There is a subset of this country who view Trump as the only source of truth. They live in an alternate reality where the world is what Trump says. So if Trump says there is a crime bill, there must be a crime bill. Trump knows this, and makes statements all the time to these, the most ignorant.

I suspect a lot of recent recruits to ICE were Proud Boys, 3%ers, Oathkeepers, etc. Also quite possibly, under Trump, a lot of recruits to the military are people who would have at least been sympathetic to those 'militia' groups before. I think Trump is creating official forces from the worst men.
