Nah. It’s a factor, but so is the existence of this space - and car culture did not cause the internet.

Policy CAN cut through, and the IRA probably would've cut through eventually. But the IRA needed time for the effects to show. What they NEEDED to win immediately was MINIMUM WAGE. The misinfo machine wasn't going to win that battle. With another 4 years to mature, IRA might've survived.

Scare quoting borrowing is not only deceptive, it is entirely counterproductive if you are trying to support SS. That's literally a talking point for those who want to kill SS. To make it seem unstable. The SS Trust is INVESTING in a way that does not favor some private companies over others.

The marriage penalty is a bit severe, we can tweak that too. But I’m talking about putting it at something like the orig exemption amount adj for inflation. So you’d be exempt at “combined income” of ~$75k for single or ~$100k for married. Then index that for inflation going forward.
longowls.bsky.social (@longowls.bsky.social) reply parent
Taxing SS benefits is good, but they should increase the amount of “combined income” before the tax kicks in. The problem is they never adjusted the exemption amount for inflation.

When taxing social security benefits, how do they determine how much of that revenue goes to the SS Trust? Is it based on the taxpayer’s marginal tax rate? #econsky
