In my experience in publics, boards don't know what they're doing so they hire directors they like who may not be qualified. Those directors hire people they like who may not be qualified. Years later, they hire me to be the director and I ask "how come half the staff has no skill?" 2/2
We are really bad at hiring. And we are afraid of being sued. Leadership often underestimates the value to the organization of removing a bully. There's always a ton of documentation on these people,so if they sue, that's why you have lawyers. 1/2
