A leopard doesn't change its spots. We elected lawmakers who work in a collegial manner to pass common-sense legislation with broad support. We didn't elect revolutionaries and resistance leaders. Now we're expecting the negotiators to become revolutionaries, and it just doesn't work like that.

I am honestly quite worried about Chicago, and begging the national press to report it as what it is: an invasion of a US city by the national guard of another state at the behest of a fascist president for purposes of terrorizing the people into submission. There is no legitimate debate about it.

Oh yes, but that's still several generations.
Powers (@ltpowers.bsky.social) reply parent
The problem is some people think that's actually how evolution works. If it's not clear that you're joking, you're reinforcing that misconception.
Powers (@ltpowers.bsky.social) reply parent
It's difficult to believe anyone could dissent from that assessment.
Powers (@ltpowers.bsky.social) reply parent
Nothing in a single generation can do anything to provide evidence either for or against evolution.

Technology has always made a small percentage of people richer. That's part of the process of making our lives better and easier. I mean, just look at the automobile. Ford made BANK. And don't forget, AI has been around for decades. Large Language Models and fast generative AI are what's new.
Powers (@ltpowers.bsky.social) reply parent
Theory has it that the thin veneer helps them identify people who are too smart for their grift.
Powers (@ltpowers.bsky.social) reply parent
Of course. But the judge ruled that AI training was more similar to a human reading a whole bunch of books to use as inspiration for an original piece, compared to directly adapting a single work to a new medium. Forex, George Lucas took inspiration from many sources for "Star Wars"; no copyvio.
Powers (@ltpowers.bsky.social) reply parent
The judge here in the U.S. ruled the same. This lawsuit addresses the acquisition of the materials, not the use of them.

They don't, because that's not who we wanted representing us. We wanted politicians, negotiators. Thoughtful, deliberate legislators. Now Trump's in power and everyone's changed what they want in a representative. But thoughtful, deliberate people don't become pugnacious demagogues overnight.

Powers (@ltpowers.bsky.social) reply parent
No. No, I don't want violent rhetoric in my politics, thank you very much. Failing to nip that in the bud is partly what got us here.

It's actually closer to half who didn't refuse to vote against Trump. Roughly 1/4 voted for Trump and 1/4 for Harris. The remaining half didn't vote, and half of them didn't vote because they are ineligible to. So it's shit for Harris voters and for the folks who can't vote.
Powers (@ltpowers.bsky.social) reply parent
No I agree with Remeor on that. Anyone who deliberately refused to vote for Harris is complicit with the Trump regime.
